Castle on the Hill
[edit]Hi, Thanks for the note. The castle does indeed seem quite notable itself and I've no problem with an article on it. However wikipedia policy does not allow advertising (which those links in the article are). If the links were removed, I'd certainly consider changing my vote. Dlyons493 Talk 20:20, 26 September 2005 (UTC)
Hi, I've marked your article for deletion for the following reasons:
- It reads very heavily like a promotion for a future service
- A quick online search brings up nothing relevant, leading me to believe this product or concept isn't notable enough to merit an article
If you have any objections, see the details on the template posted at the top of the article.

License tagging for Image:Simon Botes.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:Simon Botes.jpg. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.
For more information on using images, see the following pages:
This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 22:08, 31 July 2006 (UTC)
Image copyright problem with Image:Goplett.png
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:Goplett.png. The image has been identified as not specifying the copyright status of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. If you don't indicate the copyright status of the image on the image's description page, using an appropriate copyright tag, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided copyright information for them as well.
For more information on using images, see the following pages:

Re: fring
[edit]That article was deleted as an advertisement, and has been deleted 8 times. The deletions were upheld in a deletion review a month ago, so the article is unlikely to be restored. If you have reliable sources that could be used to write a neutral article on the subject, feel free to request unprotection at WP:DRV. However, you can only do this if and only if you have sources. --Coredesat 20:33, 17 June 2007 (UTC)
- There's info at WP:RS. --Coredesat 20:50, 17 June 2007 (UTC)
You might try some of these as reference sources: [1] [2] [3] [4] [5] and possibly even [6] which, while it only mentions Fring in passing, is a very reliable source, so combined with the previous fairly neutral coverages, might establish enough notability that fring would be able to get an article again. Felisse 00:36, 23 June 2007 (UTC)
- Go on and present these sources and whatever else you have at WP:DRV, and request unprotection of the article there. I'm worried some of those sources may not be reliable (GeekSugar is a blog, for instance). --Coredesat 02:52, 28 July 2007 (UTC)
- There's some instructions here, those should help; you won't be able to follow step 4 since the page is protected; that's okay, just provide your sources and request that the page be unprotected. I probably can't help write the article, but I can help you file a DRV if you need to. --Coredesat 08:21, 28 July 2007 (UTC)
I looked at the article you have on your user page, and it's still an advertisement that would get speedily deleted. You need to work on it some more and remove the promotional tone. Also, three of your sources are not reliable as one is a wiki (that anyone can edit), another doesn't work, and the third is a YouTube video. A DRV at this point would most likely not succeed. --Coredesat 20:30, 18 August 2007 (UTC)
Orphaned non-free media (Image:Fring logo.jpg)
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:Fring logo.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 01:21, 21 August 2007 (UTC)
Re: HELP please
[edit]The things you need to do are to move the proposed article to a subpage, such as User:Goplett/fring, and then submit a request to WP:DRV requesting unsalting. As this article has previously undergone a review it would be inappropriate for myself or any other administrator to allow recreation without a second review to overturn the findings of the first.
On a side note, several of the items listed in your references section are news articles yet are formatted in a manner that does not make this easy to determine. I would recommend you reformat the listed references to make their nature clear without requiring readers to load each of the HTML links. If you are unfamiliar with formatting of reference citations, the templates available at Wikipedia:Citation templates may be of use to you. --Allen3 talk 12:08, 23 August 2007 (UTC)
fring suggestions
[edit]There are several things that you can do to help the article:
- Images. You need a fair use rationale on the image page for the logo. See WP:FURG. The two pictures of the device with the logo showing may be too much. They may be considered no-free and as such must be used very sparingly.
- Sources. At first glance you have several sources but closer examination shows that many of the are not actually about fring. The need is to provide reliable, third party sources that deal with fring itself. Information about developers/founders/executives and such is nice but really does not support the article itself.
- References. I would use inline citations WP:CITE to properly source and document the article. They would go in their own section called "References."
- External links. These are the links to things like VoIP, IRC and such and they lead off-site.
I think these things should help. Good luck and let me know if I can help further. --JodyB yak, yak, yak 21:15, 23 August 2007 (UTC)

Fring
[edit]I didn't delete that article, I only stated why it ought to be deleted. I stand by my statement and the community seems to have agreed. You should read WP:N and find the significant coverage by 3rd party reliable sources (WP:RS) to evidence your position that this is notable, rather than leaving messages on people's talk pages disagreeing with their positions in the debate. Carlossuarez46 20:05, 6 September 2007 (UTC)
Hi. I came across fring via Wikinews and I've rescued the article for the VOIP Wikia. It's not an active wiki, but seemed the most relevant place for it to be kept until it's time for it to be recreated here. Angela. 05:13, 18 December 2007 (UTC)
Possibly unfree Image:Fring htc.jpg
[edit]An image that you uploaded or altered, Image:Fring htc.jpg, has been listed at Wikipedia:Possibly unfree images because its copyright status is disputed. If the image's copyright status cannot be verified, it may be deleted. You may find more information on the image description page. You are welcome to add comments to its entry at the discussion if you are interested in it not being deleted. Thank you.

RE:Image:Fring htc.jpg
[edit]In reply to your message:
First and foremost I did not delete the image you uploaded. That was performed by an administrator named Mecu (talk · contribs) (see the deletion log). Secondly, you stated first that "The image is not copyrighted as i took the picture i control the copyright and have released it under creative commons" but then stated that "[You] have also been in contact with the copyright owner who has given permission for the image and its use on wikipedia and anywhere else on the internet." Well which one is it? Let me try and explain the reason "your" photo was deleted. First, the photo you took was of a copyrighted logo (that of the Fring logo), thus your photo is considered a derivative work (please read the link). Only the owner of the copyright is allowed to make derivative works. You did not have the authority to release the photo under any free license, because by doing so you are claiming the ownership of the photo, and thus the ownership of the logo in the photo. Now you stated that the real owner of everything here (which would be the company itself) is willing to allow you to upload it to Wikipedia freely. Now although I highly, highly doubt this as the whole reason for creating a logo for a company and then copyrighting it is to make it so that there logo is not released into a free license, so that if someone wants to use the logo, then the company would receive royalties. Now if you still feel that the company is willing to release their logo, then the burden of proof is on you to prove this. This means that you will have to receive express written permission from the company stating that they understand that if they release their logo under a creative commons license, that they are releasing it freely to the world so that anyone can use their logo for any reason without any notice to the company. You must also make sure that if they do this that they are basically forfeiting their legal control over their logo (which I can assure you no company will do). If you are able to do all this, you will still have to send your correspondence to OTRS (feel free to contact OTRS if you have questions). You should read our image use policy to gain a better understanding of what is and isn't allowed here. My suggestion to you is to wait until the article is created (not before, or it will be deleted) and then go to http://www.fring.com/ and save their logo to your computer and then upload it claiming fair-use. Use this image as a guide, fill in the table properly, and use the same license that this one uses. This will allow you to use the logo on only the Fring article (you cannot use it anywhere else in Wikipedia). If you have more questions I would contact the admin I named above who deleted the image. If, or when, you upload the logo and need help filling out the fair-use rationale, feel free to contact me. Thank you and have a nice day.

Comment on Philip Winchester talk
[edit]I noticed your comment on the talk page of Philip Winchester about an image you have the you'd like to upload. Do you still need some help? If so let me know as a pictures you've taken of the filming of the Crusoe TV series or Philip Winchester would be great and really improve those articles. --Kaly99 (talk) 18:41, 12 August 2008 (UTC)
- To be used on Wikipedia, apart from by fair use under the Non-free content guidelines, images need to be free to be re-used commercially. This means these images can't be used, even though you own the copyright unless they're released for commercial use, apart from through a fair use rational, the policy that covers this is the image use policy. If you have any images that you are willing/able to release under a license that includes commercial use they'd be very much appreciated by the project. --Kaly99 (talk) 20:11, 12 August 2008 (UTC)
- I don't think the picture of Philip Winchester could be used under fair use as it would be possible to get a free image him from another source. The pictures of the set may be usable under fair use once the series has screened if they illustrate critical commentary of the series and/or discussions of the show's cinematography in the same way as a screen shot. If this is the case once the show airs I'm happy to help with a fair use rationale for any images.
- I'll answer your post to my talk page about removing the references to your blog on Fring from the Philip Winchester and Crusoe (TV Series) articles on their talk pages as they are a better place for discussing things directly related to the articles. --Kaly99 (talk) 16:23, 13 August 2008 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of Around the World For Free
[edit]A tag has been placed on Around the World For Free, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, product, group, service or person and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become an encyclopedia article. Please read the guidelines on spam as well as Wikipedia:FAQ/Business for more information.
If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}}
to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you. fring advertisement tag
[edit]I placed the advert tag on this article because it reads like an advertisement as opposed to an encyclopedic article. The article appears to be hype for a product, listing events and awards like one would see on their website. This is different than an article that is written objectively by third party peers who are not affiliated with this product and who do not appear to be promoting it. There is a definite need for someone to re-write all or parts of this article in a neutral manner, pointing out both positive and negative aspects of this product.
If you are in any way affiliated with fring, you should refrain from editing it directly, but should make comments in the discussion part of this article for others to read and perhaps make your recommended changes to avoid WP:COI. I make this assertion after reading some of the comments above where you have at one time or another claimed ownership (and thus affiliation) with certain logos and identification marks for this organization.
