assist moving a page

[edit]

Hi, I'm trying to move Santería to Regla de Ocha. However, since the later page exists, the former cannot be moved to it. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Vxla (talkcontribs) 14:00, 11 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, @Vxla. Moving this page might be considered controversial. If you feel strongly about it, I recommend starting a move discussion on the talk page following the instructions on Wikipedia:Requested moves/Controversial. Frost 15:21, 11 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
It's already controversial to not call a codified religion by it's official name, isn't it? Vxla (talk) 19:33, 11 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Being called a vandal for correct spelling as per the government's own recommendations is a bit ripe. i cannot seem to add evidence of the fact that the dvla actually have the correct name on their system as well as peoples v5 ownership documents, the dvla which is a government department for registration of vehicles are correctly issuing v5s with the true model recorded as invacare, to keep miss spelling it on your site is an afront to the disabled that where isued with these little machines.— Preceding unsigned comment added by 2A0A:EF40:60B:A901:194E:491E:FCDA:EF20 (talk) 21:09, 1 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia:Sexual Aussault by Birju Maharaj Topic

[edit]

Hi, can you please think once again about this cause I really think this is an irrelevant topic. As, kindly check that there are lack of evidences. How can only a particular thing said by a particular person which lead to rumours and is not even known that these assaults were real or not, be in the page? Since, these particular things were not asked by that person to Birju Maharaj when Maharaj was alive, and were henceforth not given any chance for proper validation, then how can that topic be here in this page? No Government Issues or Cases are also there against Birju Maharaj. Where is the evidence that this person is not making up things or trying to defame Maharaj, as all these are done after Birju Maharaj's death and not when he was alive!

So, please kindly have a look into this matter which has lack of "proper" evidences...

RFA

[edit]

Hello, Frost,

I saw your RFA after seeing you request its restoration at REFUND. I have a couple of unasked-for comments. I think it would really help your situation if you had an experienced editor as a co-nominator. It just shows other editors that you already have some support rather than being a simple self-nomination. You might check out Wikipedia:Request an RfA nomination.

Also, question 3 is often misunderstood by nominees and they mistakenly try to say that they have never been in conflict with other editors. On a collaborative project like Wikipedia, it's impossible to never be in a dispute with another editor unless you work in some very small niche that no one else works in. But as an admin, you deal with conflict ALL.THE.TIME so it is much better to give an example of a dispute you were involved in and how it was resolved, peacefully. If you are successful in an RFA and become an admin, you will be in many disputes and it's better to show that you can handle it appropriately and to try to deny that it's ever happened to you.

You could first do Wikipedia:Requests for adminship/Optional RfA candidate poll to get feedback and you might also look into Wikipedia:Administrator elections. It's a very new system but who knows, maybe it will work for you. Good luck. Liz Read! Talk! 00:42, 14 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I appreciate this a lot, @Liz. Advice is always welcome. My candidacy is indeed going through the new administrator elections process and not the requests for adminship (RfA). Honestly, I didn't think I'd be able to find a nominator due to my lack of GAs and consistent activity over 12-24 consecutive months, which appear to be the strong points of many successful RfA candidates. Despite this, I opted to go ahead with the election because I thought maybe I might have a chance based on my other qualities. I understand your point regarding question 3 about handling disputes, my answer to it may be too literal and I will try to expand on it soon (if it's still allowed after the nomination period ends later today). I contemplated asking for feedback at the RfA poll in the last few days but opted not to after reading through the current and past polls (and due to a little bit of agoraphobia). I may give it a go in the future and try to do an RfA the right way if this doesn't work out, though. Thanks so much. Frost 11:41, 14 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Jenny Everywhere page

[edit]

I see that the link to the Secret Jam page was removed and was deemed inappropriate but I'm not sure what was inappropriate about it. I thought it was a good example of open access usage of the character, particularly because the link to jennyeverywhere.net doesn't seem to work. Heroicyarns (talk) 19:10, 15 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, @Heroicyarns. The links you added lead to unofficial, user-generated sites, which are generally unacceptable on Wikipedia, please see Wikipedia:External links#Links normally to be avoided and Wikipedia:Reliable sources#User-generated content. Frost 19:35, 15 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I understand the overall principle, but based on the guidelines it's saying "normally" to be avoided. Since the whole premise of Jenny Everywhere is that the character is open source and available to all, this seems like an acceptable exception as it's a prime example of how the character is used by multiple different creators in an open source environment. Obviously you've been doing this for a long time so I'll defer to you. Heroicyarns (talk) 20:36, 15 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I don't think that's relevant to the rules here and I'm not sure if an exception could be made. Nonetheless, I suggest starting a discussion on the article's talk page to find a consensus for inclusion. Frost 21:09, 15 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Administrator Elections: Candidate instructions

[edit]
Administrator Elections | Instructions for candidates

Thank you for choosing to run in the October 2024 administrator elections. This bulletin contains some important information about the next stages of the election process.

As a reminder, the schedule of the election is:

  • October 15–21: SecurePoll setup phase
  • October 22–24: Discussion phase
  • October 25–31: SecurePoll voting phase
  • November 1–?: Scrutineering phase

We are currently in the SecurePoll setup phase. Your candidate subpage will remain closed to questions and discussion. However, this is an excellent opportunity for you to recruit nominators (if you want them) and have them place their nomination statements, and a good time for you to answer the standard three questions, if you have not done so already. We recommend you spend the SecurePoll setup phase from October 15–21 getting your candidate page polished and ready for the next phase.

The discussion phase will take place from October 22–24. Your candidate subpage will open to the public and they will be permitted to discuss you and ask you formal questions, in the same style as a request for adminship (RfA). Please make sure you are around on those dates to answer the formal questions in a timely manner.

On October 25, we will start the voting phase. The candidate subpages will close again to public questions and discussion, and everyone will have a week to use the SecurePoll software to vote, which uses a secret ballot. Anyone can see who has voted, but not who they voted for. You are permitted and encouraged to vote in the election, including voting for yourself. Please note that the vote tallies cannot be made public until after voting has ended and as such, it will not be possible for you to see your tally during the election. The suffrage requirements are different from those at RfA.

Once voting concludes, we will begin the scrutineering phase, which will last for an indeterminate amount of time, perhaps a week or two. Once everything is certified, the results will be posted on the main election page. In order to be granted adminship, you must have received at least 70% support, calculated as support ÷ (support + oppose). As this is a vote and not a consensus, there are no bureaucrat discussions ("'crat chats").

Any questions or issues can be asked on the election talk page. Thank you for your participation as a candidate, and best of luck.

You're receiving this message because you are a candidate in the October 2024 administrator elections.

Our Admin Election Test

[edit]

Hello there. As we're preparing to move from one stage to the next, this is just a quick note from one member of the test group to another, wishing you well in the process of this new alternative to RfA. It seems that there are more of us in this group than some in the community anticipated, so i hope that doesn't make the experience any the worse for all of us. Whatever our individual results, i thank you, along with the rest, for stepping up and testing this process; happy days, ~ LindsayHello 07:16, 21 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Looking forward to it. Thanks to you too, and good luck! Frost 13:00, 21 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

gateshead talmudical/contentions of abuse

[edit]

i there@Frost. your complete deletion of the section re. abuse cover ups was unwarranted. as i myself wrote in the page discussion, the section was poorly written, &direly needed editing. however, it certainly should be there in some form, as it is a compelling, significant episode in the colleges current standing. [btw, the lack of published evidence is inconsequential; the insular nature of of the haredi community means that such stories are rarely if ever writtein up in e-media or print. see @Chochomharozim for a case in point.
