Suggested article for WikiProject: Oregon

@Aboutmovies: You do tons of this stuff and I do not know the proper way but Tyler Bradt should be added to the list. He broke his back at Abiqua Falls in Silverton, Oregon and is in its own section in the page. Random find poking around. Hope this helps! Oh, and I already fixed the citation error it had, can't help it. *shrug* ---> Darryl.P.Pike (talk) 16:18, 15 April 2018 (UTC)

Sorry, I got my names confused earlier, not that the first isn't correct, but i meant to @Another Believer: to be truthful. ---> Darryl.P.Pike (talk) 20:40, 15 April 2018 (UTC)
@Another Believer: Two more articles for adding to Oregon. Both movies were filmed in Bend Oregon. St. Helens (film) and Up the Creek (1984 film)  Done

Thank you

@Vexations: I learned several things today about processes and functions and how they are done, places of the site I didn't know existed, and things to read I had not. Your involvement in Andrea Lambert is much appreciated and I will endeavor to put some of it to future use. If I have a question on something in the future, will it be acceptable to {ping} you like this from here as opposed to cluttering your page with my lack of understandings?

Again, thanks for the ride-along, it helped with perspective on top of everything else. ---> Darryl.P.Pike (talk) 20:06, 16 April 2018 (UTC)

User:Darryl.P.Pike You're very welcome. After almost twelve years here I'm still discovering places I didn't know existed. If you're looking for help with editing, I should mention the super-knowledgeable and friendly folks at the WP:TEAHOUSE and the WP:HELPDESK.
@Vexations: Again, I do not like removing things but another article Radio Sloan, very much in the same condition as Andrea Lambert (writer). 3 sources, one of em is a barely mention, the other two are both written by herself. No real information and not all that noteworthy to begin with. With such a short list it didn't seem necessary to repeat the list on the talk page as done earlier. What is the best way to initiate attention to things like these when I find them, know they need fixed but is beyond what I do here? I will make a post to the talk page tomorrow as I did with the one you found, but I am looking to improve on how to attract the proper attention to the different items without being a nuisance to anyone. Darryl.P.Pike (talk) 07:25, 17 April 2018 (UTC)
I'm afraid I this is an area I know very little about. The sourcing is very poor, but I'd think that there would be some better sources available. (answers.com is useless) Sometimes you need to look in the version history to find sources that have been removed. Sometimes you need to look at articles listed under What links here. Kathleen Hanna seems to think highly of Radio Sloan, so other people probably do too. Try these first, Find sources: Google (books · news · scholar · free images · WP refs· FENS · JSTOR · TWL. If there really is nothing that can be used as a source the article should be redirected to The Need. Vexations (talk) 10:48, 17 April 2018 (UTC)

Hollywood Video

@Vexations: I saw an edit added to the Hollywood Video article in the project changes list. It was undone by another user, which inturn that was undone (re-added) by the OP. I cut the content from the page, started a discussion on the talk page, and posted on his User talk:Hobohorse2003 page in reference to the whole thing. His post in return on the article's talk page makes things worse and way out of my league of being polite and helpful to a new user. Who's hands should take this over and how do I let them know?
---> Darryl.P.Pike (talk) 18:18, 19 April 2018 (UTC)

Hi Darryl.P.Pike https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Talk:Hollywood_Video&diff=prev&oldid=837254321] isn't so bad. Hobohorse2003 probably doesn't even realize he has a conflict of interest, and thinks he's just fixing outdated information, which he has. He hasn't tried to insert any promotional content, and he did engage on the talk page. You're correct in saying that the claims should be sourced to independent, reliable sources. I don't have time want to to to research that, but let's just ask him: Has this been published anywhere? Vexations (talk) 18:43, 19 April 2018 (UTC)
@Vexations:His engage on the talk was after I posted on the bottom about having removed his edit for the second time. The section he added was actually intended as a reply to me. I made pass at processing your input and we shall see what comes of the output. Thanks for your time on it and giving me a wider perception, yet again.

---> Darryl.P.Pike (talk) 19:02, 19 April 2018 (UTC)

@AJFU: I wanted you to be aware of the likely conflict of interest he has. He means no harm and is only unaware of how things are done. This is way too far out of my comfort zone of assisting someone. I thank you for your involvemnt with this however you can.

University of Oregon rowing team - Plagiarized

@Another Believer: Per the section title University of Oregon rowing team is plagiarized from this Thesis June 2015 by Trevor Mathwick. The UofO description page is here.

I found this information while trying to clear the BOT maintenance errors digging for an original url for the listed citation. I did not do a complete comparison, the first two paragraphs of both the first two sections are nearly word for word and was enough for me to post this. I feel that this is beyond my current scope of function with this site and a flag this serious should come from someone with much more tenure here than I have. I would have to guess my way through what the procedure is for this and I figure you can most likely assist in getting things pointed in the right direction. Thanks in advance, I know you do a lot for this project.
---> Darryl.P.Pike (talk) 19:21, 26 April 2018 (UTC)

The user that created the page, interestingly, did so on December 18, 2014 - six months before the date of the publication. Additionally...

    ---> Darryl.P.Pike (talk) 19:51, 26 April 2018 (UTC)
For the Record: I attempted to edit the page as suggested and found it silly to remove most of the article. After reading and some deliberation, I concluded to WP:PROD for {copypaste}. A while ago this morning I discovered WikiProject: Oregon has a deletion discussion page and added it there. I feel this is the best balance of bringing attention to the page and getting the clock started to a solution one way or the other. The combination of such a gross violation since 2014 (15? *shrug*), a creator who posted the article BEFORE the actual source was even turned in as a thesis (chicken? egg?), and subsequently banned permanently within a very short time are the factors that weighted the issue the most choosing this course. I am not a fan of straight deleting things as a norm, but I am a fan of there being integrity in what I read as informative and this does not have that.
---> Darryl.P.Pike (talk) 15:21, 28 April 2018 (UTC)
@Aspects: I may have caused my own error that you fixed. I thought I followed instructions I had read correctly and perhaps I jump the gun listing it in Oregon's AfD? I am just curious where I took that wrong turn so it isn't repeated in the future. Thanks for the fix!

Umpqua Valley Christian Secondary School

@Another Believer: Umpqua Valley Christian Secondary School needs the page name changed to remove the 'secondary' to reflect the actual name of the school. See my note in the revision history.

I do not know how to request or do that. Advise or assistance is most appreciated.
---> Darryl.P.Pike (talk) 18:24, 2 May 2018 (UTC)

Darryl, go to the Wikipedia article, and at the top, do you see a tab that says "more". If so, select the option to move the article, and designate the new name. If you don't see the "move" function (I can't remember if this is for all editors or those with select user rights), just ping me again and I'll help. I figured giving instructions lets you understand how to do this in the future. Thanks! ---Another Believer (Talk) 23:42, 2 May 2018 (UTC)
@Another Believer: Thanks yet again for the direction. I never would have thought to look there, and I don't know why. Seems intuitive now that I have the information but it sure was not before hand. All of my questions are a request for guidance. "If you fish for me; I eat today. If you teach me to fish not only can I eat for my entire life; I can now teach others to eat better too."
---> Darryl.P.Pike (talk) 02:12, 3 May 2018 (UTC)
Precisely! Glad I could help, and wow, thanks again for your many helpful contributions to Wikipedia. By the way, if you have questions, or just want to discuss other Oregon-related topics, you can always post a note at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Oregon. ---Another Believer (Talk) 15:36, 3 May 2018 (UTC)

Grover Gardner (narrator) - Create page assistance.

@Another Believer: @Aboutmovies: I went about attempting to learn how to fix a {dn} on One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest (novel). I discovered Tom Parker was one of two pseudonyms used by Grover Gardner (narrator) and made edits to the effect you can find in the links from here. I made a best-guess as to how it should be named and linked on each. There now needs to be a page created for the real person and a proof-read that I did things correctly.

Could one of you assist with moving this process along? I may undertake such a thing as a personal project at some point, but not a BLP as a first shot. Turn this to a post on the Oregon Project talk was my first thought but I felt better to wait for some experience to give some direction. Here is some links I found:

Sorry if overkill, but I wanted to save as much work to whomever contributes to this process. I will convert everyone of these to full citations over time.
