Susan Montford

[edit]

I think this article should be deleted: Susan Montford (not notable). It was made by her husband, Don Murphy, who's barely notable himself and keeps editing his own page under various sockpuppets. (The only thing he's notable for is a fight with Quentin Tarantino and he keeps removing that from his entry.) Anyways, I don't have the tenacity to deal with this nutcase... maybe you do? Produserpagewarning criteria

[edit]

How do you select user pages? Your notes seem to emphasize that no other edits were made except to the user page. Is that the selection criterion? If so, why didn't it pick up User:Cptn Funk ? Or are there so many, you haven't gotten to that one yet?   ;-)   (Just interested in all the gnomish activities I catch glimpses of)   Shenme 20:49, 6 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Ah, thanks. Sometimes when a see a strange page I just watch it to see what will happen next. Unfortunately, behaviour at WP has become an engrossing fascination for me. Of course that means I notice even tiny patterns, for instance enough to put a message on a user's IP page so that the next time she forgets to login she'll see it. :-P   Shenme 21:02, 6 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Stoopid Monkey

[edit]

I have cautioned Orangemonster2k1 that he may be blocked if he a) persists in making inaccurate 3RR reports, or b) continues to edit war at Stoopid Monkey.

I note, however, that you did come within a couple of hours of violating the 3RR; I'm sure I don't need to remind you that the 3RR is an electric fence and not an entitlement, yadda yadda yadda.

Both of you need to stop edit warring, and both of you need to work on being civil—even though you obviously each find the other infuriating to work with. File an article RfC, or do something to cement the consensus that the material doesn't belong. TenOfAllTrades(talk) 02:57, 8 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The AfD on this isn't relevant; since then it has been successfully argued for, recreated, significance added. It is not a candidate for speedy deletion. If you are determined to see it deleted, open another AfD. The claim that it's speediable because it's an advert, and that it makes no claim to the notability of its subject is simply false, as a glance at the lead shows. --Mel Etitis (Talk) 17:22, 10 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Don't you just love the query.php interface, especially when it comes up with stuff like this? And that's only two of the band-related infoboxes. I guess that will keep us busy and our watchlists full for the time being. MER-C 12:19, 11 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Tone

[edit]

I don't appreciate the tone of your comment to me in this discussion [1]. I hope its is not indicative of your general approach to contributing to deletion discussions. Please remain civil. WjBscribe 06:36, 26 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Tone of your comments of WP:AN/I

[edit]

Calton, I was reading WP:AN/I and found the tone of a couple of comments [2], [3] to be unproductive, bordering on personal attacks. This is not at all conducive to creating an encyclopedia. I see you have received other warnings about your tone. Do you think you could tone it down and be more polite to other users, regardless of what you think of them or your past interactions with them? It would make Wikipedia a better place for all of us. IPSOS (talk) 13:01, 28 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It would also make Wiki a better place for everyone if various "editors" stopped deleting other people's contributions (not mentioning any particular names).

Sardaka 09:31, 30 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Calton, I saw you were editing the Lucie Blackman article. It would be much appreciated if you could also comment on the Joji Obnara talk page, where there is a debate whether or not Obara's ethnicity should be mentioned in the opening or not. Thank you! Mackan 20:20, 28 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Just to let you know, I added a few references documenting the notabiity of PowerCADD in the context of Mac-based CAD platforms. I believe that while the article still has much room for improvement, the result more than satisfies the requirements of Wikipedia:Notability. Therefore I removed the notability template. --Dystopos 15:26, 30 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

DDR

[edit]

This user is Inconclusive[4] However, you rewrote him in Socks as well as Mackan. Is this personal attack evidence whose you are Mackan? Please teach him the politeness if you are a friend of Mackan. (If you doubt me, you can do Checkuser. ) Thank you. --Azukimonaka 11:42, 1 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Unless you're prepared to be at least minimally coherent, please don't post on my Talk page. --Calton | Talk 11:46, 1 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
However, you are specifying him for Socks without evidence. And, you are blindly directing Mackan. For instance, who is Socks of DDR? Why was the evidence of the graft of Asahi Shinbun deleted? If you hope, I request Mackan and your behavior and mediation is requested to the administrator. I have the preparation for thoroughly pointing out your contradiction. Thank you. --Azukimonaka 12:12, 1 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Calton, I'd recommend you to ignore Azukimonaka's incoherent rambling, as I'm 99% certain he is just another 2ch meat puppet. Even though he has made some edits which aren't related to the inflammatory postings on Wikipedia, a quick look on his contrib list shows he has made edits to several of the articles which were specified as "full of Korean forgery" in this 2ch thread [5]. I'd like to think of his manga edits as simply "fleshing out" of the meatpuppet character, just as meatpuppets are recommended to do in that thread. Additionally, looking at his English as well as his behaviour (posting copycat revert/vandalism warnings after being warned himself), it seems extremely likely that he is a continuation of either User:ShinjukuXYZ or User:Necmate, accounts which have have become inactive since warnings were posted on their talkpages/userpages. I do however hope for your continued support in dealing with this vandal. Thank you in advance, Mackan 19:25, 1 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Calton. Don't put a tag on my page after conclusion without evidence

[edit]

Don't put a tag on my page after conclusion without evidence. You are a troll. And if you want to revert the artcle, first of all, you should give proof of it in note. By the way, I think Mackan is also a 2ch meat puppet of another side. He has a thorough knowledge of 2ch. Thanks. DDRG 02:23, 2 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

If you are a Westerner, living in Tokyo, you would be able to read this article of Asahi Shinbun in Japanese [6]. I began to translate some paragraphes of it[7]. And after that, I was mounted attacks by Mackan. I think he wants to hide the facts. Please read this [8]. And if you can, please translate them or write the informations of Asahi Shinbun , which Westerners outside of Japan haven't known yet. DDRG 03:41, 2 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I really shouldn't comment on this, but I just love the fact that DDRG suggests I am a 2ch meatpuppet "of another side". That's rich, really. On the other hand, this looks like a confession from his side: he IS a 2ch meatpuppet, and he thinks I'm one also. Also, the fact he would think Calton is a westerner, but apparently not me, is revealing. The only reason he'd think I'm a Zainichi is because of all the rumouring about my origins (lately the consensus seems to be I'm an adopted Korean) in the very 2ch thread he came from. Mackan 07:01, 2 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I think Mackan is a 2ch meatpuppet "of another side", because he could put many links to 2ch. Who can do such things but of a 2ch meatpuppet?? Everyone thinks that he is a 2ch meatpuppet "of another side", when he/she reads his history. Mackan should read his history again. DDRG 21:34, 2 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

tagging and deletion of User:Georgedappilly

[edit]

See my note at User_talk:Alphachimp re the deletion of User:Georgedappilly. Deletion was an honest mistake (though I can see why it was tagged - it did look commercial) but nonetheless it is good to learn from mistakes. Cheers --Chriswaterguy talk 05:12, 2 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Failing to be WP:CIVIL and not observing WP:NEWBIES is a mistake.
Check the spam guidelines (as I have) and show me where he transgressed.
The comment about a note on the talk page was left at Alphachimp's page, before I saw your note - but as I said there, the action of deleting without giving time for a response was inappropriate. I notified you as you played a role in this, but the comment was mainly directed at Alphachimp. --Chriswaterguy talk 06:29, 2 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

...the action of deleting without giving time for a response was inappropriate

Spam? It gets deleted immediately with {{db-spam}}, hence the adjective "speedy" in "speedy deletion". Perhaps you need a review of guidelines yourself before gassing on with the smarmy "it is good to learn from mistakes" arrogance (speaking of the lack of civility), hmmm? --Calton | Talk 06:50, 2 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

That's plain rude - I was attempting to be acknowledge that your mistake was a well-intentioned one. You still appear not to have read WP:SPAM, which you really should do - see my comment on Alphachimp's talk page. --Chriswaterguy talk 07:48, 2 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Update: Following Alphachimp's latest response, I accepted that both of you were following policy regarding the deletion. (User_talk:Alphachimp#Speedied_user_page).
This was a genuine disagreement, and has been resolved through discussion with Alphachimp. If someone has a genuine disagreement with your actions and says you've done the wrong thing, even if they are wrong, that is not an excuse for insults. --Chriswaterguy talk 23:07, 2 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I know you don't think this is that important, and I tend to this is much ado about nothing, but you could be more understanding and civil in some of your discussions with other editors - if only to set a good example for other people. I came here from the civility alert, and a couple of your edits are less than civil - but it's pretty borderline, so I don't know what else to say. I'd just note that there's a line between being assertive, and being insulting - most of the time, you stay on the right side of it, but you occasionally cross over. I'd just be more aware of my words in the future. --Haemo 03:01, 8 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

If you would like to file a complaint about me, please use the proper process which most certainly is not CfD. -- Cat chi? 14:37, 18 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

What complaint would that be, Perry Mason? It's called "theorizing about your motives" -- in other words, a possible explnation for your pointy nomination. --Calton | Talk 14:43, 18 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I am not Perry Mason. Please either WP:AGF. How is it pointy? What point am I illustrating? No one, including you, is disputing that the borders are undefined and that the issue is controversial. My nom is inline with WP:CAT's general guidelines. If you still feel this is "pointy", take it to WP:ANB/I or community sanction board. If my intentions are truly disruptive I should be blocked. -- Cat chi? 14:48, 18 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I am not Perry Mason - Then quit acting like him.
Please either [sic] WP:AGF - Note that's "Assume good faith in the absence of evidence to the contrary. Your history of POV pushing -- both in general and on this issue in particular -- is evidence to the contrary: citing WP:AGF isn't a "Get Out of Jail Free card", you know.
No one, including you, is disputing that the borders are undefined and that the issue is controversial - And, as I explicitly pointed out, utterly irrelevant.
If you still feel this is "pointy", take it to WP:ANB/I or community sanction board - Why?
If my intentions are truly disruptive I should be blocked - You can intend anything you like: only when you escalate to disruptive actions should you be blocked. Of course, relentless wikilawyering in order to suppress, delegitimize, obscure, or discourage discussion or opposition and achieve victory for a single minority point of view is disruptive, so maybe you're onto something. --Calton | Talk 15:00, 18 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I am not sure what to make out of your response. I would welcome if you clarified it.
Creators of the categories such as User:Diyako or User:Diyarbakir also have a history of pov pushing. Unlike me both are blocked from editing wikipedia currently under arbcom remedies. In the case of Diyako the block is one year, in the case of Diyarbakir it is indefinite. Diyarbakir is also known to devote his entire contribs to wiki-stalk me for the past two years. ArbCom merely warned me for my behaviour during my first 1000 edits. Surely my other 30,000+ edits should have some weight.
There had been no discussion on the inclusion criteria or even the very creation of this armada of Kurdistan categories. We categorize cities by country (defacto (Taiwan/Sealand) or dejure (France/United States) alike) not by [alleged] regions that also happen to be wanabe countries. So far, I haven't been given one straight answer on what these Kurdistan categorization is based on nor have I been ever told why they are even necessary. Issue is so controversial, people do not even want to touch it with a "10 foot pole", surely there must be something wrong with this category if people are so hesitant to remark on it. If it was completely uncontroversial and non-problematic I am sure people would be more than willing to comment.
I have been trying very hard not to escalate the issue (escalating it is very easy, all it takes is one person waging a revert war and hell breaks loose - we have seen examples of this in the past). I have been remaining civil patiently for months trying to initiate a discussion. I have went through every single process of dispute resolution I know of. And for that when people accuse me of POV pushing, it is quite frustrating.

Surprisingly enough, this happens somewhat often. He's not the easiest to get along with, but you can either give it a shot and try to find common ground, or ignore him. The choice is up to you, but I'd strongly suggest not getting into pointless fights and pissing contests on his talkpage. It makes all look stupid and nothing ever gets solved. This is because, surprisingly, people can hold two completely different views that are both logically correct. Zounds, I know, seems unpossible! But it happens. Centiare

[edit]

I've done research into wikipedia's policy's esp. WP:WEB and WP:V

I'm not going to be nearly as crass as to make the centiare page again and have it nominated for deletion which starts everyone off on a negative note. Instead I will present an argument (on your page first as you urged to delete it originally) about why a page would qualify as encyclopedic content.

  • The alexa ranking. Centiare ranks number 77,737 over the last three months and was 35,000 yesterday. Most wikis on wikipedia (the ones linkable through List of Wikis are in the several hundred thousands.
  • The Essjay Controversy was written extensively on though the event was negative for wikipedia. Even though centiare started with an anti-wiki sentiment in the wikipedian community that should not stop inclusion.

After I tweak my argument here I will post it elsewhere so please nicely attack the site so I can build a better defense. Andman8 19:05, 27 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fine words lost in the effort to see who can put the wet spot higher on the wall.

Biased or malicious content

Editors should be on the lookout for biased or malicious content about living persons in biographies and elsewhere. If someone appears to be pushing an agenda or a biased point of view, insist on reliable third-party published sources and a clear demonstration of relevance to the person's notability.

Japanese Buddhism

[edit]

Some people's edits in the Japan article is a little odd. You guys do realize that Japan doesn't have much of an interaction with China until the 8th cent. and even then the interaction for Japan to the outside world is a mix between Korea and China. In the 16th cent. Japan still considered Korea a good source of technology and ideas of the bigger world cause of Korea's proximity to Japan. It seems odd to keep excluding or negating Korea from existence when it comes to Japan's ancient history. Some people seem to be obsessed with eliminating or negating any mention of Korea from Japan's ancient history. It happened with the Yayoi section, it happened with rice cultivation and it keeps happening with every other instance when Korea is an intregal part Japan's ancient history. I'm going to delete that entire sentence cause we can't seem to agree on whether Korea and China contributed to Japan's buddhism or ONLY China contributed to Japan's buddhism. Or I will add that both Korea and China contributed to Japanese buddhism. Thanks --Tyler 11:18, 30 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
