Speedy deletion nomination of Category:2024 disestablishments in New Zealand
[edit]A tag has been placed on Category:2024 disestablishments in New Zealand indicating that it is currently empty, and is not a disambiguation category, a category redirect, a featured topics category, under discussion at Categories for discussion, or a project category that by its nature may become empty on occasion. If it remains empty for seven days or more, it may be deleted under section C1 of the criteria for speedy deletion.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and removing the speedy deletion tag. Liz Read! Talk! 21:14, 17 February 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks @Liz:, have added an article (Water Services Reform Programme) to the category. There's still ten more months to this year so we may see more disestablishments in New Zealand especially with the current Government wanting to disestablish the Te Aka Whai Ora (Mа̄ori Health Authority). Invitation to join New pages patrol
[edit]Hello Andykatib!
- The New Pages Patrol is currently struggling to keep up with the influx of new articles needing review. We could use a few extra hands to help.
- We think that someone with your activity and experience is very likely to meet the guidelines for granting.
- Reviewing/patrolling a page doesn't take much time, but it requires a strong understanding of Wikipedia’s CSD policy and notability guidelines.
- Kindly read the tutorial before making your decision, and feel free to post on the project talk page with questions.
- If patrolling new pages is something you'd be willing to help out with, please consider applying here.
Thank you for your consideration. We hope to see you around!

New page reviewer granted
[edit]Hi Andykatib. Your account has been added to the "New page reviewers
" user group. Please check back at the permissions page in case your user right is time-limited or probationary. This user group allows you to review new pages through the Curation system and mark them as patrolled, tag them for maintenance issues, or nominate them for deletion. The list of articles awaiting review is located at the New Pages Feed. New page reviewing is vital to maintaining the integrity of the encyclopedia. If you have not already done so, you must read the tutorial at New Pages Review, the linked guides and essays, and fully understand the deletion policy. If you need any help or want to discuss the process, you are welcome to use the new page reviewer talk page or ask via the NPP Discord. In addition, please remember:
- Be nice to new editors. They are usually not aware that they are doing anything wrong. Do make use of the message feature when tagging pages for maintenance so that they are aware.
- You will frequently be asked by users to explain why their page is being deleted. Please be formal and polite in your approach to them – even if they are not.
- If you are not sure what to do with a page, don't review it – just leave it for another reviewer.
- Accuracy is more important than speed. Take your time to patrol each page, including checking for copyright violations using Earwig's copyright violation detector, checking for duplicate articles, and evaluating sources (both in the article, and if needed, via a Google search) for compliance with the general notability guideline.
- Please review some of our flowcharts (1, 2) to help ensure you don't forget any steps.
- Use the message feature to communicate with article creators and offer advice as much as possible.
The reviewer right does not change your status or how you can edit articles. If you no longer want this user right, you also may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. In cases of abuse or persistent inaccuracy of reviewing, or long-term inactivity, the right may be withdrawn at administrator discretion. If you can read any languages other than English, please add yourself to the list of new page reviewers with language proficiencies. Hey man im josh (talk) 14:29, 26 February 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks @Hey man im josh:, look forward to helping out. Cheers. Andykatib (talk) 22:15, 26 February 2024 (UTC)

New Pages Patrol newsletter April 2024
[edit]Hello Andykatib,
Backlog update: The October drive reduced the article backlog from 11,626 to 7,609 and the redirect backlog from 16,985 to 6,431! Congratulations to Schminnte, who led with over 2,300 points.
Following that, New Page Patrol organized another backlog drive for articles in January 2024. The January drive started with 13,650 articles and reduced the backlog to 7,430 articles. Congratulations to JTtheOG, who achieved first place with 1,340 points in this drive.
Looking at the graph, it seems like backlog drives are one of the only things keeping the backlog under control. Another backlog drive is being planned for May. Feel free to participate in the May backlog drive planning discussion.
It's worth noting that both queues are gradually increasing again and are nearing 14,034 articles and 22,540 redirects. We encourage you to keep contributing, even if it's just a single patrol per day. Your support is greatly appreciated!
2023 Awards
Onel5969 won the 2023 cup with 17,761 article reviews last year - that's an average of nearly 50/day. There was one Platinum Award (10,000+ reviews), 2 Gold Awards (5000+ reviews), 6 Silver (2000+), 8 Bronze (1000+), 30 Iron (360+) and 70 more for the 100+ barnstar. Hey man im josh led on redirect reviews by clearing 36,175 of them. For the full details, see the Awards page and the Hall of Fame. Congratulations everyone for their efforts in reviewing!
WMF work on PageTriage: The WMF Moderator Tools team and volunteer software developers deployed the rewritten NewPagesFeed in October, and then gave the NewPagesFeed a slight visual facelift in November. This concludes most major work to Special:NewPagesFeed, and most major work by the WMF Moderator Tools team, who wrapped up their major work on PageTriage in October. The WMF Moderator Tools team and volunteer software developers will continue small work on PageTriage as time permits.
Recruitment: A couple of the coordinators have been inviting editors to become reviewers, via mass-messages to their talk pages. If you know someone who you'd think would make a good reviewer, then a personal invitation to them would be great. Additionally, if there are Wikiprojects that you are active on, then you can add a post there asking participants to join NPP. Please be careful not to double invite folks that have already been invited.
Reviewing tip: Reviewers who prefer to patrol new pages within their most familiar subjects can use the regularly updated NPP Browser tool.
Reminders:
- You can access live chat with patrollers on the New Pages Patrol Discord.
- Consider adding the project discussion page to your watchlist.
- To opt out of future mailings, please remove yourself here.

The pages will remain protected for as long as the vandalism and edit warring continues. Thanks. Andykatib (talk) 01:42, 8 April 2024 (UTC)

September 2024 NPP Backlog Drive sign up
[edit]Hello Andykatib, I noticed that you are signed up for the September 2024 NPP Backlog Drive. However, you're going to be unable to participate if you do not have the New Page Reviewer permission. If you are still interested in participating in the backlog drive, then I encourage you to request the permission at WP:PERM/NPR. I have, for the moment, removed you from the participants list as you are not able to participate at this point in time. – DreamRimmer (talk) 13:26, 31 August 2024 (UTC)
- Hi @DreamRimmer:, no worries. Thanks for letting me know. Have been busy this month and I think I will be busier in September since my workplace has increased my hours. Will continue to edit when I can come but I don't think I will have the time to participate in the New Page reviewer role. Thanks for your understanding. Andykatib (talk) 20:11, 31 August 2024 (UTC)
Question
[edit]This is a really strange question and I'm going to be embarassed for the rest of my life for asking this but... Do you want to be my friend? I've noticed that you're interested in flood articles and I like those too, although nothing beats earthquakes. Earthquakes have been a special interest for me for the past year -- every time I think of earthquakes I get uncontrollably happy and excited for some reason. It used to be Mitsubishi for two years which inspired my username. ―Panamitsu (talk) 11:55, 5 October 2024 (UTC)
- I said this 4 hours before a strong Wellington earthquake. ―Panamitsu (talk) 16:15, 5 October 2024 (UTC)
- Hi @Panamitsu:, I will be happy to be your friend and to collaborate. Happy to help with the earthquake article. I also plan to write up a Draft:2024 Otago floods article in light of this week's flooding. Feel free to help if you're interested. Have a good weekend. Andykatib (talk) 21:05, 5 October 2024 (UTC)
- That sounds fun, I might help with the flood article. I have a friend in Dunedin so she might have taken a few photos that we may be able to use. I'm not sure.
- The earthquake did not cause any major damage so it isn't notable. It was the largest magnitude I felt since the 6.0 earthquake on 15 February 2023. My interest in the 2013 Seddon earthquake was renewed on 1 October 2024 after a magnitude 5.0 earthquake near Seddon (which was my largest magnitude since 11 August 2023) so I am planning on creating an article on the 1966 Seddon earthquake if it turns out to be notable. ―Panamitsu (talk) 23:36, 5 October 2024 (UTC)
- Okay, hope things go well and let's keep in touch. Andykatib (talk) 06:59, 6 October 2024 (UTC)

1984 Southland floods
[edit]Since 22 August I've had the 1984 Southland floods on my todo list for articles to create and I think I might start working on it soon. Would you like to help? I can't remember what it was, but there was something interesting about it. By the way, today I created an article for the 2019 Timaru hailstorm, which is the NZ's costliest weather disaster in the 21st century (behind Cyclone Gabrielle), and sixth costliest natural disaster since records began in the 1960s (excluding the COVID-19 pandemic). Nice work on the Otago floods article. ―Panamitsu (talk) 09:14, 10 November 2024 (UTC)
- Hi @Panamitsu:, I will be happy to help with the 1984 Southland floods article. I am not familiar with that flood but could help if you could point me to some sources. Cheers. Andykatib (talk) 09:22, 10 November 2024 (UTC)
- I did a Google search and found some material on the Southland floods. Also added categories to the 2019 Timaru hailstorm article. Andykatib (talk) 21:45, 10 November 2024 (UTC)
- I've put a list of sources on Draft:1984 Southland floods, with the most useful probably being the NIWA source (which allows commercial reuse). I personally don't plan on covering every detail about the event, but I'll see how I feel as I get into the thick of it. ―Panamitsu (talk) 04:58, 11 November 2024 (UTC)

Trans-Tasman travel bubble
[edit]Hi Andykatib. Do you think we should create an article for the trans-Tasman travel bubble during the COVID-19 pandemic? I reckon it would be fun to work on. ―Panamitsu (talk) 06:37, 20 November 2024 (UTC)
- Hi @Panamitsu:, I don't think we need an article on the trans-Tasman travel bubble. I had a look at Travel during the COVID-19 pandemic and there doesn't seem to be a precedent for creating articles on bilateral travel bubbles. I think it would be best covered under the COVID-19 pandemic in New Zealand article. But thanks for the suggestion. Andykatib (talk) 07:36, 20 November 2024 (UTC)
- Oh alright, thanks. ―Panamitsu (talk) 07:46, 20 November 2024 (UTC)
Conservatism in New Zealand page
[edit]Hi, I saw on the talk page of Historic conservatism in New Zealand, you said on January 2022, you would make a page for Conservatism in New Zealand/ for modern Conservatism in New Zealand. I was wonderings its 2024, Can you make that page.Muaza Husni (talk) 03:01, 21 November 2024 (UTC)
- Hi @Muaza Husni:. I did try to update the Historic conservatism in New Zealand article over two years ago but lost interest and found other things to do. One idea might be to rename the article Conservatism in New Zealand and update it. The centre-right New Zealand National Party has both liberal and conservative strands, having being formed from the Liberal Party of New Zealand and the Reform Party of New Zealand. If you are so keen on it, why don't you start work on it instead of asking others to do it for you? Andykatib (talk) 05:31, 21 November 2024 (UTC)
