Possibly unfree File:FAS-new-logo.jpg
[edit]A file that you uploaded or altered, File:FAS-new-logo.jpg, has been listed at Wikipedia:Possibly unfree files because its copyright status is unclear or disputed. If the file's copyright status cannot be verified, it may be deleted. You may find more information on the file description page. You are welcome to add comments to its entry at the discussion if you are interested in it not being deleted. Thank you. J Milburn (talk) 21:15, 25 March 2009 (UTC) --J Milburn (talk) 21:15, 25 March 2009 (UTC)
- I realise that Wikipedia itself is not for profit, but for an image to be counted as "free" on Wikipedia, it must be usable commercially, as well as be modifiable. If this image is not free, it must be used only within the non-free content criteria. However, it seems compliant, and so I am happy to add a rationale to the image for you. J Milburn (talk) 21:46, 25 March 2009 (UTC)
- I have added a fair use rationale to the image. If you believe that there are other images which are being used as public domain (despite being covered by this policy of logos not being reusable) it'd be great if you could bring them to my attention so I can look into the matter. By the way, welcome to Wikipedia, and I am sorry for not leaving you a welcome notice earlier- if I can be of help with anything, you're welcome to leave me a message on my talk page. J Milburn (talk) 21:50, 25 March 2009 (UTC)
Thanks. I'll keep my eyes peeled -- but as a Federal employee I can say pretty authoritatively that Federal agencies don't allow any of their logos to be used commercially unless it is some sort of seal of approval used for specific purposes (e.g., the "USDA Prime" or "USDA Choice" logos used by meatpackers with permission). Thus the Wikipedia article on NASA, for instance, features both the NASA logo and NASA seal, and I suspect NASA would not be pleased with commercial use of these logos without permission. Amustard (talk) 21:58, 25 March 2009 (UTC)
- The use of the NASA logo and seal are restricted, but that's not by copyright, but by other concerns. This is in the same way that public domain logos (like the Cocoa Cola logo) are restricted by trademark concerns. These issues are not taken as seriously on Wikipedia as copyright concerns, for whatever reason (I'm not a lawyer- they probably should be taken more seriously than they are...). I'm fairly sure that the USDA logos should not be considered public domain, and I am looking into means of dealing with this issue. J Milburn (talk) 22:48, 25 March 2009 (UTC)
Orphaned non-free image (File:GHC Seal2.gif)
[edit]Thanks for uploading File:GHC Seal2.gif. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of "file" pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. FileBot (talk) 21:08, 21 August 2009 (UTC)
Problems with upload of File:Fomin samovar-annotated-gray.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading File:Fomin samovar-annotated-gray.jpg. You don't seem to have said where the image came from, who created it, or what the copyright status is. We require this information to verify that the image is legally usable on Wikipedia, and because most image licenses require giving credit to the image's creator.
To add this information, click on this link, then click the "Edit" tab at the top of the page and add the information to the image's description. If you need help, post your question on Wikipedia:Media copyright questions.

Hi, and thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you tried to give National Food Security Bill, 2013 a different title by copying its content and pasting either the same content, or an edited version of it, into another page with a different name. This is known as a "cut-and-paste move", and it is undesirable because it splits the page history, which is legally required for attribution. Instead, the software used by Wikipedia has a feature that allows pages to be moved to a new title together with their edit history.
In most cases, once your account is four days old and has ten edits, you should be able to move an article yourself using the "Move" tab at the top of the page. This both preserves the page history intact and automatically creates a redirect from the old title to the new. If you cannot perform a particular page move yourself this way (e.g. because a page already exists at the target title), please follow the instructions at requested moves to have it moved by someone else. Also, if there are any other pages that you moved by copying and pasting, even if it was a long time ago, please list them at Wikipedia:Cut-and-paste-move repair holding pen. Thank you. Speedy deletion nomination of Darci Vetter
[edit]Hello Amustard,
I wanted to let you know that I just tagged Darci Vetter for deletion, because it seems to be copied from another source.
If you feel that the article shouldn't be deleted and want more time to rewrite it in your own words, you can contest this deletion, but please don't remove the speedy deletion tag from the top.
You can leave a note on my talk page if you have questions. Tritario (talk) 14:10, 19 December 2013 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of File:Official Portrait of Darci Vetter.jpg
[edit]A tag has been placed on File:Official Portrait of Darci Vetter.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the image is an unused redundant copy (all pixels the same or scaled down) of an image in the same file format, which is on Wikipedia (not on Commons), and all inward links have been updated.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Fat Leonard
[edit]Hi. I've been doing the bulk of the work on the Fat Leonard article for the last year or two. I noticed you'd added the Haas info to the table, but you somehow moved the table to below the references in the article and then left it that way. You also left your edits unsourced. I appreciated your enthusiasm and thanked you for your input, not realizing that you'd created some problems, but I'm going to try to sort it all out. I'm sure you can do it right with a bit more care. I would suggest that if you're making future edits, especially where formatting is complex, that you check your work with the preview function and the "show changes" function before publishing your edits, to avoid such problems in the future. I'm not blaming you, just trying to be helpful. Thanks. Activist (talk) 23:26, 18 August 2018 (UTC)
- Yes, sorry about that. I'm not sure what happened. The internet in Turkmenistan can be flaky at times and it wobbled then went out in the middle of an edit, was down for hours, and messed up the table. I was unable to log back in via an alternate ISP that uses a VPN since Wikipedia blocks IP addresses used by VPNs. I apologize for messing up the table and appreciate your grace in fixing it. I was in the process of adding the sources when the Internet went out. Amustard (talk) 10:08, 4 November 2018 (UTC)

[edit]Unspecified source/license for File:Allan Mustard Ashgabat portrait.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading File:Allan Mustard Ashgabat portrait.jpg. Copying within Wikipedia requires attribution
[edit] Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you copied or moved text from History of Turkmenistan into Mary Region. While you are welcome to re-use Wikipedia's content, here or elsewhere, Wikipedia's licensing does require that you provide attribution to the original contributor(s). When copying within Wikipedia, this is supplied at minimum in an edit summary at the page into which you've copied content, disclosing the copying and linking to the copied page, e.g., copied content from [[page name]]; see that page's history for attribution
. It is good practice, especially if copying is extensive, to also place a properly formatted {{copied}} template on the talk pages of the source and destination. Please provide attribution for this duplication if it has not already been supplied by another editor, and if you have copied material between pages before, even if it was a long time ago, you should provide attribution for that also. You can read more about the procedure and the reasons at Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia. Thank you. If you are the sole author of the prose that was copied, attribution is not required. — Diannaa (talk) 13:06, 20 April 2021 (UTC)

Recent edit reversion
[edit]In this edit here, I reverted some information that appears to be a violation of our copyright policy.
I provided a brief summary of the problem in the edit summary, which should be visible just below my name. You can also click on the "view history" tab in the article to see the recent history of the article. This should be an edit with my name, and a parenthetical comment explaining why your edit was reverted. If that information is not sufficient to explain the situation, please ask.
I do occasionally make mistakes. We get hundreds of reports of potential copyright violations every week, and sometimes there are false positives, for a variety of reasons. (Perhaps the material was moved from another Wikipedia article, or the material was properly licensed but the license information was not obvious, or the material is in the public domain but I didn't realize it was public domain, and there can be other situations generating a report to our Copy Patrol tool that turn out not to be actual copyright violations.) If you think my edit was mistaken, please politely let me know and I will investigate. S Philbrick(Talk) 12:32, 22 April 2021 (UTC)

However, the image is currently not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

Overlinking
[edit]Hi, en.WP's rules say to link only where necessary. Please avoid linking common words like "town" and "city" and "village". Flags are usually avoided in infoboxes. Tony (talk) 10:26, 9 May 2021 (UTC)
- @Tony1 The issue I address with this is a tendency on the part of some contributors to the Turkmenistan-related articles to miscategorize municipalities. Categorization of municipalities in Turkmenistan is strictly governed by law, so defining a "city" as a "town", or a "village" as a "town" or "city" leads to inaccuracy in Wikipedia. My intent is to underscore proper categorization of municipalities. If there is a better approach than this, please advise. Amustard (talk) 13:58, 15 May 2021 (UTC)
Guychgeldi Baygeldiyev moved to draftspace
[edit]An article you recently created, Guychgeldi Baygeldiyev, is not suitable as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:
" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page.
