Question from Amandaplemmons on Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians (20:54, 26 July 2024)

[edit]

Where do I fill application out . I believe I do have one relative on the Baker roll --Amandaplemmons (talk) 20:54, 26 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi! Please note that Wikipedians like me usually know much more about policies than actual, useful knowledge ;). Please try the Wikipedia:Reference desk next time.
However, after a quick Bing (they give you points for searching) search, you have https://ebci.com/enrollment/. Aaron Liu (talk) 02:52, 27 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Question from ProfessorMaccaroon on User:Isabelle Belato (15:54, 27 July 2024)

[edit]

So do all member of wiki like Isabelle Belato delete peoples pages. Or is making a page about the history of jelly and ice cream against Wikipedias goals of global information on all topics? --ProfessorMaccaroon (talk) 15:54, 27 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hello! It probably is. There are two things Wikipedians hate most: promotional content and a lack of sources. People usually care much more about the latter: if an article doesn't have many WP:reliable sources, its content may as well be made up. Meanwhile, a lack of secondary sources and an abundance of primary sources could indicate promotional content. These are the primary reasons Wikipedia:Notability exists.
Waqar has sent you a bunch of useful links, including Wikipedia's tutorial "Your first article". I think it would be really helpful if you read it! Cheers, Aaron Liu (talk) 21:40, 27 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

ANI Notice

[edit]

Since I used a diff by you in this ANI discussion, I think I have to notify you of it. But you're not in trouble. Loki (talk) 22:35, 11 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks!

[edit]

Thanks for that! I was super confused how people managed to find my script without me advertising it (it not even on the list of userscripts yet). Polygnotus (talk) 03:30, 15 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

No problem! I found the script through watching the Category:Wikipedia scripts category, which the userscript infobox automatically adds. Would you like to add your script to the list? Aaron Liu (talk) 03:34, 15 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Yes please, that would be lovely. Polygnotus (talk) 04:31, 15 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks again! Polygnotus (talk) 19:17, 15 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Sheikh Jahidul Hasan Fahim on User:1AmNobody24/CSD log (18:50, 15 August 2024)

[edit]

How do I write my biography in Wikipedia ? --Sheikh Jahidul Hasan Fahim (talk) 18:50, 15 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Well, it's heavily advised against. See Help:Your first article § Things to avoid. First of all, you have to meet wp:notability, which means that you have to be the main subject of several articles from wp:reliable sources. Secondly, you have to be terribly unbiased about yourself. If you really want to do this, you can check out the instructions at Help:Your first article. Aaron Liu (talk) 18:57, 15 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Question from ArthurTheGardener (16:50, 18 August 2024)

[edit]

Hi Aaron, I wonder if you could advise me, please. I was working on a new page in my sandbox just now, but wasn't able to save it because of an editing conflict. Later I found the message "no cats in draft" from another editor. I'm not sure what this means. Is it because I'd already added categories to my unfinished article? And if so, are there any other restrictions to what I can do in the sandbox, please? --ArthurTheGardener (talk) 16:50, 18 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi! Yes, that’s precisely why. These categories are meant to categorize actual Wikipedia articles, and your draft isn’t an article yet. You can see [1] for an example of the draft categories template in action. Aaron Liu (talk) 17:03, 18 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I see. Thank you for clarifying that for me. ArthurTheGardener (talk) 08:57, 22 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Question from ArthurTheGardener (08:56, 22 August 2024)

[edit]

Hi Aaron, Sorry to bother you again, but I'm not sure what to do. I've received a request via template on my Draft page, which I think is about some early iterations of the page I'm writing, which are in violation of copyright (I was initially working from a convenient existing synopsis, which I have since replaced). I think the request is asking me to remove those early pages - but how do I do that, please? Isn't the fact that they have been overwritten since then enough? (I never meant to leave any part of the disputed material in the final draft). ArthurTheGardener (talk) 08:56, 22 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi! You don't need to do anything except remove the bad parts from the article. The template has been added into the draft, and eventually an admin will come and delete the old revisions that contain the bad parts from the article, which is where they are currently still visible. So, sit back and relax, I guess! Aaron Liu (talk) 12:21, 22 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, thanks, I appreciate that. (There are still so many rules to get my head around that I think I'm just paranoid about getting things wrong!) ArthurTheGardener (talk) 14:38, 22 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Haha, no worries. Good thing we all have people to help! Aaron Liu (talk) 14:58, 22 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
