'Obivious' nominations
[edit]Hey, been working with you and some others on the BB7 pages, just thought that with the hideous table of nominations (something out of a powerpoint presentation from hell) that boldifying the nominees wouldn't actually do any harm. You said it was obvious who was nominated from the table. Took me a while to work it out, that's why I did what I did. Is it that big a deal? I think making the most relevant thing on the whole page bold seems fair enough. But then again, it's Big Brother and I've got a life outside all this jazz. But I'm curious to understand why it's such a bad thing to make the most significant item of interest bold. Budgiekiller 21:17, 31 May 2006 (UTC)
- Yeah, I appreciate your changes - but with the current discussion about colours going on, I don't think making it bold will make it any clearer - if anything, more confusing. You may want to bring it to the talk page, though? -- cds(talk) 21:21, 31 May 2006 (UTC)
- Hey, to be fair, I'm not that fussed. I just wanted to know who was nominated and it took me some time, and I'm the Universe expert in powerpoint etc. (!) so for it to take me a few seconds to find the answer just made me think it needed some highlights. Anyway, it appears that the current tide of events has taken precedence, as you said, so I'll let it slide until the yelling has calmed down. I'll bring it up some other time (or just subversively keep changing the page like an IPvandal using a variety of IP addresses until someone forgets to revert.... [sneaky laugh])...! Budgiekiller 21:30, 31 May 2006 (UTC)
- lol - You could try ;) Once the current discussion has calmed down, I'll bring it up. -- cds(talk) 21:33, 31 May 2006 (UTC)

Re: response to helpme
[edit]- Ok, firstly, as said before, you shouldn't take the AfD personally, and the reason there are 4 others quickly jumping in is merely becasue a lot of people (myself sometimes) who look at all the open AfDs and vote on those that stick out.
- As for the other user following you around, I'm not sure what to do about this. I'll chat to a few people about it for advise. For the moment, I know it's hard, but try to assume good faith :)
- I hope you don't leave Wikipedia over this - it's mostly good, I promise! I notice you have got help elsewhere - together, I hope this situation will get sorted. -- cds(talk) 23:47, 31 May 2006 (UTC)
Ok, I got your message. How should I show you the links? Should I copy and paste the actual link, or just write with []'s the name of the page? Veritasophia 00:42, 1 June 2006 (UTC)
- If it's diffs, then you can put the full link in single square brackets, or the article itself you can put in double square brackets. -- cds(talk) 00:43, 1 June 2006 (UTC)
- It looks like a lot of this has stemmed from simple misunderstanding. Certainly I feel the redirect should've been discussed first. I think if you still feel there needs to be certain information included, you should take it up on the article talk pages. As for the user following you, I think he means no harm in it, and is only trynig to keep the place tidy. I hope this doesn't discourage you! -- cds(talk) 01:50, 1 June 2006 (UTC)
- Responded on user's talk page. -- 9cds(talk) 15:06, 7 June 2006 (UTC)
- Ah, ok. You may want to ask the people deleting the content, they hopefully will nicely explain :) -- 9cds(talk) 20:16, 7 June 2006 (UTC)
Personal attack?
[edit]Why is everything I say that concerns something you do a personal attack? Stop deleting what I have to say; the article you keep posting on my talk page says you shouldn't delete peoples' comments, only the attack; or something along those lines. You're just deleting the whole thing. JD 00:17, 1 June 2006 (UTC)
- It's fine if you feel that the content should stay, nobody's saying you can't give your opinion on things. However, you can't link an action to a user: if they put an article up or AfD you should vote on it, rather than say "ffs they've put it up for AfD!". This is seen as a personal attack. Just comment on the content rather than the person, and we'll all be fine :) -- cds(talk) 00:19, 1 June 2006 (UTC)
- There is so much I would just love to say to you, but I'm worried I could be breaking one of your precious Wikipedia rules, and you are not worth my being banned. If you want to sort things out, reverting things immediately is not the way to go about doing things. And just for the record, I didn't comment on the content because it's not the content I have a problem with; it's the course of action you chose to take. And also, the ffs was not aimed at you, and if you see that as a personal attack, that's not my fault. JD 00:24, 1 June 2006 (UTC)

BB06
[edit]I wasn't even meant to change the image, and I'm expecting somebody that actually lives in Australia to want to change the image back to the 2005 opening titles image. Also, having a colour that matches the image makes it kinda difficult to see where the image ends and the background begins. But it's more for the first reason. --JDtalkemail 21:53, 6 June 2006 (UTC)
- Oh, the image looks good - I like it. It's the background colour - I'm of the opinion that you shouldn't be able to see where the image ends. But I don't know how it should look, so sure, that's fine! -- 9cds(talk) 21:59, 6 June 2006 (UTC)
- How what should look? And who said it wasn't fine in the first place? --JDtalkemail 22:03, 6 June 2006 (UTC)
BB06 - Gaelan Walker
[edit]The link that I re-added was already there before you decided to hack and slash at the BB06 article. You may not think it's relevant, but if any of the links that you deleted were of any relevance, that one would most probably have been the only one. I'm leaving it on, because someone that actually lives closer to Dreamworld than you or I thinks the link should be there, for whatever reason. If you don't like the links being there, speak to the people that originally added them. --JDtalkemail 15:00, 7 June 2006 (UTC)

Speedy of 7 Seconds of Love
[edit]As the consensus was unfortunate but clear at the AfD, I won't pursue it further, but this article wasn't a speedy candidate due to the assertion of notability regarding press and the popularity of Veitch. Please reconsider how these are closed for future reference.--badlydrawnjeff talk 13:43, 8 June 2006 (UTC)
- It wasn't me who deleted the article - it was put up as speedy by someone, and deleted by an admin. I merely closed the AfD (if you think I closed it wrong, my apologies, and let me know so that I don't make the same mistake again) -- 9cds(talk) 13:46, 8 June 2006 (UTC)
Hello
[edit]Hi! I keep bumping into you on the BB7 page and in a few other places. You quite often 'beat me to it' with fixing various edits on that page. Just thought I'd say hey. Celardore 22:53, 8 June 2006 (UTC)
- Haha, I love the way people treat reverting vandalism as a race :p Nice to meet you, some really good work on the BB7 article, you've made it look really nice. Keep it up :) -- 9cds(talk) 22:56, 8 June 2006 (UTC)
- I didn't mean I'm racing you, just I'd get edit conflicts because you did the same thing a few seconds earlier is all =) And there is always room for improvement, we'll see what happens! Celardore 23:05, 8 June 2006 (UTC)

Hi 9cds
[edit]As a courteousy - you closed Joseph D. Campbell as 'no consensus' - I think the argument to delete was far better than that to keep (which was non-existent). As AfD is by no means a vote, I think you may have made the wrong call - I would have deleted - and so I have taken it to deletion review. Regards, Proto||type 11:33, 9 June 2006 (UTC)
BB AU Screen caps
[edit]You only just noticed them? They've been there for ages - I had put them in tables, but Barrylb said they looked clutterd and removed them, leaving the AO and FNL ones on there. I wanted to see if they would look alright if they were small, but I only clicked to edit the Shows section so I couldn't look at the whole article. If you want them back, consider looking at the ones in tables in a previous edit, then speak to Barrylb. --JDtalkemail 16:35, 10 June 2006 (UTC)
- I must admit I didn't like the tables, but I think the screen caps should be in the article still. -- 9cds(talk) 17:32, 10 June 2006 (UTC)

RfA
[edit]Hey, just wanted to say that although I opposed your nomination, it wasn't personal and I think you'd make a great admin soon. I can see that some of the comments (particularly those revolving around the 'malformed rfa') weren't fair at all, but my opposition was simply based on the lack of experience (I've seen RfA's rejected on lack of experience for people with 10k edits!) and the whole BB7 episode with JD_UK. Anyway, I understand that you might want to take a wikibreak but please, please don't take it personally and don't write the whole thing off. Don't hesitate to get in touch if you want to discuss further, but please don't dismiss Wikipedia on this experience! Kind regards... Budgiekiller 19:05, 11 June 2006 (UTC)
Thank you
[edit]Fair use image
[edit]The 'swish' is tagged as a fair use image therefore WP:FAIR applies, unless the 'T&Cs' you refer to change the tag on the image, it cant be on a template. I have listed it at Wikipedia:Fair use review, so you may want to detail these 'T&Cs' on the template/image's talk page. Ian3055 18:08, 13 June 2006 (UTC)
BB7 Images
[edit]Why did you remove these? -- 9cds(talk) 19:15, 15 June 2006 (UTC)
A moment of wikifury. Not to boo-hoo or anything, but I've had a stressful time IRL recently - but that cloud lifted today (I kept my job). I'm more than happy to add new and improved images to the article, I've still been keeping tabs on things. I let my opinion [that my neutral image of Sezer was best] get the better of me, and I apologise for that. Entirely unprofessional I know. I stayed away from the article the past few days because of that, never really understood how annoying differing opinions can cause such grief until that little incident.
This time tommorow, the article will be all pretty again. Sorry again to all concerned.
Celardore 19:44, 15 June 2006 (UTC)
- Heh, glad things are improving - the article really does look bad without them ;) -- 9cds(talk) 23:46, 15 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit]Just a quick question - what does the changes you made do? -- 9cds(talk) 14:30, 19 June 2006 (UTC)
- It's very basic. I just replaced the word "section" in the text with
{{{1|section}}}
thereby allowing one to change the word section to a word of your choice. This was added so that the duplicate template (Template:BBArticleSpoiler could be deleted without contention.--SomeStranger(t) 14:46, 19 June 2006 (UTC)- Aha, nice. Thanks! -- 9cds(talk) 14:48, 19 June 2006 (UTC)
RfA thanks!
[edit]Thanks for voting! Hello 9cds/archive1, and thank you so much for voting in my recent RfA. I am pleased to inform you that it passed with a final tally of (119/1/3), into the WP:100, so I have now been cleared for adminship and will soon be soaring above the clouds. I was overjoyed, shocked, and humbled by the tally, and, most importantly, all the support. Thank you. If there is ever anything you need, you know where you can find me. Take care. |
--Pilot|guy 22:57, 19 June 2006 (UTC) And your support was not late and very much needed :)
What is it about that template that you think is so special? Did you look at the image link I put down that showed how ugly it looked on the page because it doesn't hide on non-standard MediaWiki skins. Stop being silly yourself. I think it would be hilarious if you actually tried to block me for removing the instructions that only you ever used/needed to nominate an article. The don't edit means the rest of it. You have a lot to learn as an admin yet. I am reverting and well, its your choice whether to put it up for anything. Ansell 10:49, 20 June 2006 (UTC)
- Could you be nice enough to actually say why {{afd-list}} is so important. The instructions not to edit the template are not meant to be totally literally interpreted. I am using ignore all rules to make things run better as my defence, what is yours? Also, could you comment here to substantiate your reasoning. Thanks, Ansell 11:28, 20 June 2006 (UTC)
- You should not be editing templates that say not to edit it. By doing so you're only trying to make a point, and breaking 3RR at that. -- 9cds(talk) 11:31, 20 June 2006 (UTC)
- Have you for even one second wondered why the template says do not edit. And what material damage I am doing by removing the one-use instructions which you followed nicely to do the original nomination. I am not making a point. You are making a point that you are a new admin who is suddenly invincible. BTW, I would love to see you justify your first block as a 3RR on listing instructions, something which admins should be able to do without the instructions. The instructions are merely a nicety. There are many people who think the template looks ugly. Why don't you go and fix it instead of making admins look foolish by following instructions to the letter. Ansell 11:39, 20 June 2006 (UTC)
- I will happily back it up if I happen to block someone for 3RR. Please don't make a point and discuss it on the talk page. -- 9cds(talk) 11:43, 20 June 2006 (UTC)

Hi, do you know if it would be possible to change the colour of individual lines in this template? If you don't have a clue about this sort of thing, then sorry for asking. --JDtalkemail 14:45, 20 June 2006 (UTC)
- What do you mean by changing the color of the individual lines? Do you mean the lines where the participants are listed? And if so, do you want to be able to change it for each individual use of the template?--SomeStranger(t) 14:55, 20 June 2006 (UTC)
- I had an idea that would mean people could get rid of the table on BB06 if a consensus is reached. Instead of having the table, and the lines colour-coded for nominations and evictions, I was thinking maybe do it in that template. If it is possible, and if you have some spare time, could you do it just for the template on the BB06 article please? Or tell me how I would be able to do it, if making such a change would affect the automatic alternate colours used for each row? --JDtalkemail 14:59, 20 June 2006 (UTC)
- I would rather acheive consensus before making all these changes. Why don't you go ask 9cds who seems to be the other person heavily involved with the Big Brother related pages. If she agrees then I will go ahead and make the changes requested.--SomeStranger(t) 15:06, 20 June 2006 (UTC)
- I'm not sure, but I think 9cds has been blocked from editing for a few hours. But I'm sure she'd jump at the opportunity to have the table deleted. I'll try and ask her on the IRC thing, and I'll get back to you. Thanks. --JDtalkemail 15:08, 20 June 2006 (UTC)
- I would suggest leaving a message on her talk page regardless. Blocked users can still edit their own talk page.--SomeStranger(t) 15:16, 20 June 2006 (UTC)
- I spoke to 9cds on IRC, and she said that it was alright to do that. Right before she said she was going to report me to a freenode operator. Anyway, so should I post something about it on the BB06 article's talk page for other peoples' opinions? --JDtalkemail 15:58, 20 June 2006 (UTC)

- I don't want to be a part of the conflict between the two of you, please argue somewhere else. As far as the template goes, I had just started making changes when I saw this message. The color changing is implemented for the first 3 contestants (Go see the code if you want to add it to the rest). If you would rather have me finish it up for you, then let me know.--SomeStranger(t) 16:58, 20 June 2006 (UTC)
- I added how it works on the discussion page of the template and implemented it on the Big Brother Australia season 6 page. I would suggest when you get a chance to find a slightly darker shade of blue and red and have it alternate with the lighter color on the template so that when there are a few evicted people or a few nominated people in a row their table rows are clearly defined.--SomeStranger(t) 17:34, 20 June 2006 (UTC)
- Yeah, I was thinking of that. Will do so tonight - thanks for your work! -- 9cds(talk) 17:35, 20 June 2006 (UTC)
- I was bored so I did it for you. If you have anymore questions feel free to ask.--SomeStranger(t) 02:01, 21 June 2006 (UTC)
- I fixed it up for you. When you are trying to create tables inside of conditional statements, instead of using the "|" marker, you need to use {{!}}. This circumvents a bug which at this point is currently not fixable.--SomeStranger(t) 11:17, 21 June 2006 (UTC)
- Oops, thanks! -- 9cds(talk) 11:22, 21 June 2006 (UTC)

- I'd rather the person I asked did it if anybody did it. --JDtalkemail 16:49, 20 June 2006 (UTC)

Hello 9cds. I noticed recently on Esperanza's Trading Spaces program that you were listed as a member renovating another's userpage. I am here to tell you that the Trading Spaces program has left Esperanza and has merged into WikiProject User Page Help. WikiProject User Page Help is a new WikiProject designed to help Wikipedians with the technical side of Wikipedia, HTML codes, markups, etc. It has been discussed and the Trading Spaces program has been merged into the our new WikiProject. I have also come to invite you to our new project. If you would like to become a member, feel free to add your name to the list of participants. Whether you join or not, you're still free to join the Trading Spaces program. Cheers! — The King of Kings 22:18, 20 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit]You're the person that doesn't agree on the edit. You're using a widescreen monitor, and a big one at that. Because of that, you're seeing a bigger gap than others. On a standard monitor, or maybe even a smaller widescreen monitor, the gap wouldn't be that big. You seem to be the only person that has a problem with the gap being there, and maybe you should ask other people about the gap before you mess up the layout of the article for the sake of your monitor. --JDtalkemail 10:02, 21 June 2006 (UTC)

- Why are you using that resolution? More to the point, why didn't you say that before? Now I can understand why you think there's such a big gap. Doesn't mean I think the changes you're making are good, but surely there must be a better way to get rid of the big gaps on your massively low resolution box thing. --JDtalkemail 10:11, 21 June 2006 (UTC)

- I don't understand. Your last edit before trying to get yourself banned was this, which shows no indication of Wikitiredness. I also saw no requests to administrators asking to be banned. You did indicate wikistress level 3 ("pretty stressed"), but I still don't understand. Is there anything we can do to help? Armedblowfish (talk|mail|contribs) 00:17, 26 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit]Sorry for calling you he, that was a genuine mistake. I really do hope you to come back to Wikipedia; you do make good edits, and you know it. Please reconsider. --JDtalkemail 23:55, 22 June 2006 (UTC)
- While I understand that you may feel frustrated, why did you feel the need to deface Wikipedia property and involve uninvolved parties? You can still talk it over with JD_UK, and remember that we're here to work as a team, not make enemies. If you feel a piece of information should be added, or in this case, subtracted, ask others what they think! I realise that we encourage boldness but try to discuss controversial issues before you take any action. And please don't keep vandalising; let's try to start this with a clean slate. My user page
[edit]Hey 9cds,
I'm sorry it's taken so long to get back to you. Real life has been very hectic lately. I'm very flexible on my user page. I would like it to be attractive. I'm not such a big fan of "brag sheets" though some indication of what I'm interested in (fluid dynamics and its category, equality feminism-related stuff, aviation-related, and lots of random subjects here and there (e.g. vegetarianism, the places I've lived and studied). I should indicate that I'm an administrator. I should mention that I'm studying for a PhD in aerospace engineering at MIT, particularly working in multidisciplinary design optimization. I like having some indication of my attitude towards Wikipedia, which has a very heavy emphasis towards not biting the newcomers and civility. I used to have a picture up on my page, but it was old and I deleted it a while ago, though I recently borrowed a camera and could get another one if I chose. There used to be a story on my user page of how I first became a Wikipedian, with diffs of Tacoma Narrows Bridge and Lift (force) and a heavyhanded moral about WP:BITE, and I had a bit of an idea about an essay exploring ownership of articles and the story behind WP:POINT. Anyway, in the true spirit of trading spaces, and the openness of wiki, do what you want! moink 15:20, 23 June 2006 (UTC)
A short Esperanzial update
[edit]As you may have gathered, discussions have been raging for about a week on the Esperanza talk page as to the future direction of Esperanza. Some of these are still ongoing and warrant more input (such as the idea to scrap the members list altogether). However, some decisions have been made and the charter has hence been amended. See what happened. Basically, the whole leadership has had a reshuffle, so please review the new, improved charter.
As a result, we are electing 4 people this month. They will replace JoanneB and Pschemp and form a new tranche A, serving until December. Elections will begin on 2006-07-02 and last until 2006-07-09. If you wish to run for a Council position, add your name to the list before 2006-07-02. For more details, see Wikipedia:Esperanza/June 2006 elections.
Thanks and kind, Esperanzial regards, —Celestianpower háblame 16:00, 23 June 2006 (UTC)
Thank you
[edit]Thank you for your kind message back in December last year. I returned to England in May, having spent the past 5 months working alongside as well as shadowing some of the staff based there on a fixed term basis at the Johannesburg bureau. I won't be able to contribute as much from now on as I would like to due to other commitments but I'll try to help out where I can! :) Wikiwoohoo 15:05, 24 June 2006 (UTC)
Channel 4 svg
[edit]Oh right, I didn't know that. Oh well, at least I learnt how to make SVG files :). --LorianTC 19:04, 26 June 2006 (UTC)
- It appears you have done this with several channel logos, could you please revert them? -- 9cds(talk) 19:06, 26 June 2006 (UTC)
- Only 2 of the Channel 4 logos... Not sure where you got the "several channels" from... --LorianTC 19:57, 26 June 2006 (UTC)
- Oops, my mistake, my apologes. (Several other logos were uploaded at a similar time) -- 9cds(talk) 19:59, 26 June 2006 (UTC)

SVG logos
[edit]What makes you say that you can't upload logos in SVG under fairuse? Look at Microsoft. As that's a big company, therefore probably a popular article, how has THAT logo survived as an SVG under fairuse? I have not seen any policies to support this claim. - Рэдхот 20:23, 26 June 2006 (UTC)
- The tag with the image: It is believed that the exhibition of low-resolution images of logos.. - SVGs are high resolution. -- 9cds(talk) 20:47, 26 June 2006 (UTC)
- Well, not necessarily. SVGs aren't images per se. SVGs are a set of constructions. Whether or not they violate fairuse is determined by how high a resolution they are rendered in in the articles. As I said, I have yet to find a policy which advises against this, as long as they're rendered as low-res (and all those RTÉ ones were) - Рэдхот 20:56, 26 June 2006 (UTC)
- Saying SVG are a set of constructions is like saying PNG is a set of pixels. SVG are high res, always will be, due to the nature of SVG. -- 9cds(talk) 21:00, 26 June 2006 (UTC)
- Within an SVG document you define the dimensions on the output image, it can be scaled up of course, but so can other images. I don't see why the format makes a difference. --LorianTC 21:47, 26 June 2006 (UTC)
- Because other image types lose quality when scaled up. SVG images don't. This is not fair use. -- 9cds(talk) 00:17, 27 June 2006 (UTC)
- In that case, why aren't you speedy deleting the more obvious ones. I just pointed out Microsoft is in SVG, and yet you haven't done anything about it. Not even IFDed it! I agree that an SVG can RESULT in non-fairuse, but I completely disagree that it, in itself, is not fairuse, once its not rendered high-res. And my point about SVGs being a set of constructions, was that the size it must be (to look normal), isn't defined. They are NOT high-res because they aren't the same thing as bitmaps are. You can't compare them like that. You're saying they're high-res because they can be high-res. By your logic, I can call them 1 pixel wide because they can be 1 pixel wide. Once again, I'll point out that you haven't shown me a Wikipedia policy that says SVGs can't be used for logos. If you do, I'll gladly accept that they shouldn't be on Wikipedia. - Рэдхот 12:59, 27 June 2006 (UTC)
- If you feel they shouldn't have been deleted, may I suggest WP:DRV. -- 9cds(talk) 14:35, 27 June 2006 (UTC)
- It's not really about that anymore. At this stage, I want it clearly defined whether or not SVG is against fairuse. If I establish it is, fair enough. If it's not, I want it put on a policy page. I have asked at several reference points about it, but have yet to get a conclusive answer (nobody is very sure). It really should be noted whether or not they can, SOMEWHERE. - Рэдхот 15:30, 27 June 2006 (UTC)
- Also, thanks, in a way, for deleting those. It brought it to my attention that this is something that needs to be clearly defined somewhere. ;) -Рэдхот 15:32, 27 June 2006 (UTC)
- Glad to see the two of you work it out ;-) Anyway, more discussion (with my thoughts) is located here for those just passing by. GChriss 18:01, 27 June 2006 (UTC)

Cutbacks
[edit]Hey, it's me again, the one that complained about the weeks 3 & 4 cutbacks on the BB7 article. I just added to the chronology for weeks 5 & 6 hoping that you wouldn't cut them back. I decided that the few points that I included were fairly important/notable events in this year's Big Brother and don't think that the chronology should be reduced to just noms & evictions. What do you think? King rich 22:28, 27 June 2006 (UTC)
- The article is already quite long... why is a task notible? -- 9cds(talk) 22:29, 27 June 2006 (UTC)
- I think that all of the tasks should be included in the chronology, and that if I was to do a survey about it (I can't because I'm rubbish at Wikipedia) then most would agree with me. I based the chronology on the BB6 article and they're about the same length - which I think is a fair length. King rich 22:33, 27 June 2006 (UTC)
- Hm, does the BB6 article contain all tasks? (I can't remember). The problem is there's a large number of tasks, and if we're gonna do it for the whole series, the length will get out of control. -- 9cds(talk) 22:37, 27 June 2006 (UTC)
- I can't remember either, but I think that the length of the chronology with my edit was about equal to BB6 and of an acceptable length. I suggest we re-instate it for now and then evaluate the length of the chronology in about a month's time? King rich 23:44, 27 June 2006 (UTC)
- Ok, fair enough. -- 9cds(talk) 00:15, 28 June 2006 (UTC)
