Talk: Richard Nixon

There seems to be a problem with the archiving bot at Talk:Richard Nixon. A lot of the more recent discussions seem to have been added to the first and second archived talk pages. Thanks, but I don't really understand your reply. Are you saying that someone else, not yourself, is responsible for the malfunctioning of this bot? If so, how can I identify the person responsible? --Viennese Waltz 11:55, 27 November 2020 (UTC)

@Viennese Waltz: Archiving was turned off by Mr. Guye (talk · contribs) with this edit at the end of August 2017, when the current archive was no. 10, as shown by the parameter |counter=10 that had been in the {{User:MiszaBot/config}}. More than two years later, in October 2019, archiving was turned on again by Mgasparin (talk · contribs) with this edit, but they failed to notice the ten existing archives and set |counter=1, which is why it started off at the beginning again. It is not the fault of the bot, which operates to strict rules governed by the information that it is given: the bot has no way of knowing that the information is incorrect. --Redrose64 🌹 (talk) 23:01, 27 November 2020 (UTC)

I gummed up the works

It seems as though I created quite the mess at Talk:Jonathan Schwartz (producer). I attempted to implement the archive bot, but when I did a manual archive, it created a second archive - which I explicitly don't need at all. Could I have a bit of help re-adjusting the page? I'm trying to make my time at Wikipedia easier, after thirteen years of being a contributor, but this may be my greatest technical malady to date. DÅRTHBØTTØ _(T•C) 20:36, 29 November 2020 (UTC)

You mean this edit? It was a valid archiving edit - the archiving configuration is:

The |algo=old(7d) parameter here means that any thread with no activity for seven days is eligible for archiving. In this case, the thread was created at 09:40, 29 September 2020 (UTC) and there had been no subsequent posts, meaning that the thread had 66 days of inactivity - which is a lot more than seven days. Removing need for noting the auto archiving period twice

Hi Σ! CapnZapp recently raised the point at a bot proposal that the |age= and |algo= parameters at {{Archives}} and {{Auto archiving notice}} often get out of sync with each other (and even when they don't, it's annoying to have to change two values when adjusting the period). Could we make it so that this only has to be specified in one place? {{u|Sdkb}} ^talk 05:35, 6 December 2020 (UTC)

Well, not with each other as much as between whatever notice template you're using and the actual bot settings. Can the bot check the template while it's at it, is the question. Cheers CapnZapp (talk) 09:49, 6 December 2020 (UTC)

Archiver.js and wikiplus

OK granted I may have pushed the envelope a little bit but I tried it with 16 threads at ANI (-148k) and it did weird stuff (ctrl+f the diff for "8ember" or "decemer"). I guess I won't be trying that again :-) Levivich ^harass/_hound 05:02, 8 December 2020 (UTC)

Problems with archiving and display on my talkpage

Hello, I started using MiszaBot III in December 2007, some nine months after starting on wp. I added an archives 'plate later that month. Obviously Lowercase sigmabot III has inherited my talkpage's archiving.

Somehow the display on my talkpage now shows the early archives only, with 2008 Archive 3 as the latest. It does not display any of the later archives, which should be up to Archive 13 (no year). I don't know if the bot is working erratically, sometimes content has been left on my talkpage for a lot longer than 7d. I've manually archived some content from time to time. More importantly it is not easy to go to a particular archive: I have to do a search for my talkpages.

The code I use is:
