Requests for page protection

Current requests for increase in protection level

[edit]
Request protection of a page, or increasing the protection level

Place requests for new or upgrading of article protection, upload protection, or create protection at the BOTTOM of this section. Check the archive of fulfilled and denied requests or, failing that, the page history if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

Reason: I am requesting protection for 10 articles: 2010 Little League World Series through 2019 Little League World Series, inclusive.

There has been, and continues to be (as recently as today), intermittent but persistent long-term vandalism by an anonymous editor who uses various IP addresses. This person (or perhaps bot) continues to demonstrate a clear determination to corrupt the information in these articles. Most edits to these articles over the past year have been vandalism and reverts thereof. As these articles are about events that happened 5+ years ago, few to no future legitimate changes are expected. Requesting page protection for an indefinite amount of time. Dmoore5556 (talk) 21:57, 14 December 2024 (UTC)

Indefinite extended confirmed protection: Arbitration enforcement – Arbcom: India Pakistan articles. Heyaaaaalol (talk) 01:31, 15 December 2024 (UTC)

Hi Heyaaaaalol, contrary to the very similarly named WP:ARBPIA, the WP:ARBIPA area has no automatic extended-confirmed protection. There has been some disruptive editing in the history of this article, but no recent incident. Is there a specific reason for requesting this today? ~ ToBeFree (talk) 03:01, 15 December 2024 (UTC)

Temporary semi-protection: There is a high level of IP vandalism occurring. The season’s grand finale has not yet concluded, but the winner and runner-up statuses are being deliberately altered. IP addresses are misleading information about the winners and runner ups.

Despite repeated attempts to undo the changes, persistent disruptive edits from IP addresses continue. I had raised this request yesterday but did not properly convey the extent of the problem caused by those edits. MySlack1222 (talk) 03:13, 15 December 2024 (UTC)

Current requests for reduction in protection level

[edit]
Request unprotection of a page, or reducing the protection level

Before posting, first discuss with the protecting admin on their talk page. Post below only if you receive no reply.

  • To find out the username of the admin who protected the page, click on "history" at the top of the page, then click on "View logs for this page," which is under the title of the page. The protecting admin is the username in blue before the words "protected", "changed protection level" or "pending changes". If there are a number of entries on the log page, you might find it easier to select "Protection log" or "Pending changes log" from the dropdown menu in the blue box.
  • Requests to downgrade full protection to template protection on templates and modules can be directed straight here; you do not need to ask the protecting admin first.
  • Requests for removing create protection on redlinked articles are generally assisted by having a draft version of the intended article prepared beforehand.
  • If you want to make spelling corrections or add uncontroversial information to a protected page, please add {{Edit fully-protected}} to the article's talk page, along with an explanation of what you want to add to the page. If the talk page is protected, please use the section below.

Check the archives if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

Reason: The protection is no longer necessary because i believe that the metaverse is now less associated with crypto and the blockchain - especially after the rise of spatial computing. 67.209.128.24 (talk) 15:46, 8 December 2024 (UTC)

Suggested action: Lower to WP:WHITELOCK/WP:PCPP to prevent disruptive editing from cryptospammers while still allowing for broader contribution from legitimate editors (especially IPs like me). Otherwise, if no cryptospam is expected, remove protection completely. 67.209.128.24 (talk) 15:51, 8 December 2024 (UTC)

Heyaaaaalol, did you already ask Daniel Case? I mean, now that we're here, I think we can also discuss this here, but you'd normally need to contact the protecting administrator first (see the edit notice of this page). ~ ToBeFree (talk) 02:42, 15 December 2024 (UTC)
@Heyaaaaalol: Additionally, please note that because extended confirmed protection was applied to this article as a contentious topic page restriction (in the Arab–Israeli conflict topic area – logged at Special:Diff/1261818158), the protection can only be overturned with the consent of the enforcing administrator (Daniel Case) or if successfully appealed to arbitration enforcement, the administrators' noticeboard, or the Arbitration Committee. See Wikipedia:Contentious topics § Changing or revoking a contentious topic restriction for details. — Newslinger talk 02:50, 15 December 2024 (UTC)
Daniel Case, this came from AIV, right? I thanked you for the protection but I think semi-protection would do equally well here unless I've overlooked recent disruption related to the war. ~ ToBeFree (talk) 02:44, 15 December 2024 (UTC)
Yes it did. Editing like this, reverted here, suggests to me a subtext distantly related to the current conflict. Daniel Case (talk) 02:52, 15 December 2024 (UTC)
Thanks – yeah, that edit may well be an attempt to display the history of the region in a light favorable to one's own side in the current conflict. To me personally that's infrequent and distant enough not to apply extended-confirmed protection indefinitely, but I see the point and as Newslinger has described above, unless you agree with lowering the protection level, this needs to be declined here. ~ ToBeFree (talk) 02:58, 15 December 2024 (UTC)

Current requests for edits to a protected page

[edit]
Request a specific edit to a protected page
Please request an edit directly on the protected page's talk page before posting here

Ideally, requests should be made on the article talk page rather than here.

  • Unless the talk page itself is protected, you may instead add the appropriate template among {{Edit protected}}, {{Edit template-protected}}, {{Edit extended-protected}}, or {{Edit semi-protected}} to the article's talk page if you would like to make a change rather than requesting it here. Doing so will automatically place the page in the appropriate category for the request to be reviewed.
  • Where requests are made due to the editor having a conflict of interest (COI; see Wikipedia:Suggestions for COI compliance), the {{Edit COI}} template should be used.
  • Requests to move move-protected pages should be made at Wikipedia:Requested moves, not here.
  • If the discussion page and the article are both protected preventing you from making an edit request, this page is the right place to make that request. Please see the top of this page for instructions on how to post requests.
  • This page is not for continuing or starting discussions regarding content should both an article and its discussion page be protected. Please make a request only if you have a specific edit you wish to make.

This, I think, is the first time I've made a suggestion. Hopefully, I'm doing this correctly.

The lateral fricative voiced retroflex, as an example, has an IPA representation of ɖɭ˔ according to its Wikipedia page, but the IPA Pulmonic table and other tables use the Unicode representation in the table and any font I have found just doesn't handle that character,

Would it be better to use the IPA representation which I think many fonts handle since the table has 'IPA' in its title and its link points to the Wikipedia page with both representations? The linked article each cell in the table states that the representation the IPA version and that the Unicode character is implied from that.

I'd be happy to make a list of each table and cell where this occurs if that is necessary and you think these will be worthwhile changes. BLWBebopKid (talk) 19:51, 8 December 2024 (UTC)

Pinging @Kwamikagami as they are likely to have some insight to these issues. For me personally, I'm not sure. I happen to have fonts installed that handle the extIPA symbols, but I'm in the stark minority there. Remsense ‥  01:46, 9 December 2024 (UTC)
ExtIPA is IPA. It's just a specialized subset. For example, extIPA can be used in the 'Illustrations of the IPA' published in JIPA.
The issue is one of font support. The letters in question date to 2015, though they weren't added to Unicode until 2021. There are websites that list fonts that support various characters. These are supported by the SIL fonts, which are the best free IPA fonts available. If you don't have a good font installed, you're not going to be able to view IPA correctly anyway. That's why we have the IPA notice in articles, that you may need to install an IPA font to view the article properly. — kwami (talk) 05:32, 9 December 2024 (UTC)

Hi, I am re-requesting AWB perms. It was last denied because I had shown zero need for it but this time, I think I do have a reason.

I had recently created Niagara (electoral district) and Middlesex North from a (redirect) to a Disambiguation page, and it has links. I would like to use AWB to update the links, and make it point to the right pages. I'm thinking there could be more "redirect-to-disambigaution" pages that would need updating links. Reason for Request: I am requesting reinstatement of Extended Confirmed Rights after their removal by User:ScottishFinnishRadish for concerns related to "gaming EC through adding a machine translation of Fondation Maeght and Rueil-Malmaison in many small edits without attribution." He asked me to "make at least a few hundred edits" to regain it. I understand the importance of maintaining trust and adhering to Wikipedia’s policies, and I’ve since reflected on how to better contribute responsibly.

Since the removal, I have added attribution to the concerned articles. I have made over 300 referenced contributions, focusing on adding reliable sources to improve verifiability, expanding content in alignment with Wikipedia’s standards, and enhancing article quality.

I believe my recent contributions demonstrate constructive and policy-compliant editing.

Vulcan would like to be able to rename files and to help others in doing so. Already have similar role in Commons. Vulcan❯❯❯Sphere! 04:21, 12 December 2024 (UTC)

Comment: I just declined ~15 of the requests made by the requestor because they do not meet our local requirements to be eligible for renaming. Among the worst offenders were File:Snowfall.gif and File:New Scientist.jpg; neither are completely meaningless, thus they do clearly do not meet WP:FNC#2. I imagine our criteria differs from commons, as I am unfamiliar with their system there. I would recommend that the candidate be asked to take some more time and demonstrate a better understanding of local file renaming procedure before granting a request here. — Godsy (TALKCONT) 20:15, 12 December 2024 (UTC)
Oppose as Godsy says, and given the note that I left them on the talk-page. I'd advise them to gain more experience in the area, and contribute elsewhere? Additionally, most of their rename requests recently were out of the question, here and both per Commons (adding this as Godsy said, they aren't aware of how file renaming works on Commons). ─ Aafī on Mobile (talk) 22:23, 12 December 2024 (UTC)

Requests for new page reviewer

New page reviewer

[edit]

Hi! I'd love to help out with the backlog. I have around ~40 AfD !votes, and I'm usually one of the first votes and always use strong guideline-backed reasoning. I've only had 1 AfD in the "red" cell of AfD Stats, that was a bio of a person from a non-English speaking country, and I tried to find sources in my WP:BEFORE, but nothing come up, and then another user more familiar with that country was able to dig something up so I withdrew (I don't think it should count as a black mark against me). I've also reviewed a lot of AfC submissions (a good amount of them sadly don't show in the AfC tool as they were later deleted, but there's still a decent chunk in there), and I almost always provide personalized advice backed with good reasoning when declining. You can find my CSD log here (n. 10, 100% success): User:MolecularPilot/CSD_Log, and I've also created 5 articles (see my user page), 4 of which are B class. Thanks for your time! :) MolecularPilot 🧪️✈️ 05:30, 10 December 2024 (UTC)

Adding that I'm also very experienced in cleaning formatting, copy editing, wiki linking etc. as I often do that before accepting AfC submissions, and for evidence of criteria #3 about being kind to new users, I think I've helped a good amount of users understand policies/guidelines/reasons for AfC declines etc, a small subset of these can by verified on my user talk page and I'm also very active on the help IRC (admittedly less during the last week due to a personal event). I'm also knowledgable about copyvios, having cleaned a decent amount, informing users about our policy, answering any questions they sent to me and requesting revdel. I've also reviewed around 20 cases on CopyPatrol. Thanks again for your time :) MolecularPilot 🧪️✈️ 05:32, 10 December 2024 (UTC)

I know Wiki to be an open space, except confidential, I believe concerns about my AFC review/NPP should be publicly expressed. You might as well attach links here if possible. Tesleemah (talk) 05:42, 14 December 2024 (UTC)
Private communications are allowed. I simply made a note to encourage a thorough review before granting, based on some feedback I received. If I had time to investigate myself I would have, but I wanted to respond because it popped up on my watch list. Hey man im josh (talk) 13:56, 14 December 2024 (UTC)

Pending changes reviewer

[edit]

I monitor recent edits to combat vandalism and improve articles, I also act on drafts, I have a good knowledge of Wikipedia rules. SparklingBlueMoon (talk) 15:21, 5 December 2024 (UTC) SparklingBlueMoon (talk) 15:21, 5 December 2024 (UTC)

Reason for requesting pending changes reviewer rights: I am an active patroller of recent changes and quite often see awaiting pending changes; I would like to receive the permission to accept/deny changes. I also have a track record of reverting vandalism. jolielover♥talk 06:54, 15 December 2024 (UTC)
Requests for rollback

Rollback

[edit]

My next logical request for permission, one that I don't suppose I can utilize alongside Ultraviolet to stop the bad faith one-timers and vandals where I watch. Although, I must admit, I should simultaneously take care to not get into any content dispute I see; I'll do my best not to get into one this way. Thanks for considering (again). 2601AC47 (talk·contribs·my rights) Isn't a IP anon 01:40, 1 December 2024 (UTC)

P.S.: as a sure guarantee my use of rollback is done safely and without causing any significant issue, I'll use Mr. Stradivarius' ConfirmRollback. 2601AC47 (talk·contribs·my rights) Isn't a IP anon 01:45, 1 December 2024 (UTC)
2601AC47, a confirmation click before rollback has become a feature that doesn't need userscripts anymore. ~ ToBeFree (talk) 00:08, 15 December 2024 (UTC)

I would like to be able to access rollback tools to fight vandalism more effectively, I am familiar with Wikipedia's rules. SparklingBlueMoon (talk) 17:17, 2 December 2024 (UTC)

This permission will help me in combating vandalism. I’ve been actively patrolling recent changes, always warning users when necessary, assuming good faith, and taking full responsibility for all my edits. I also do crosswiki patrolling and recently joined the SWMT. — Jet Pilot (talk) 21:03, 3 December 2024 (UTC)

Hello! I had been actively patrolling RC in 2023 but paused for a long time since I was too busy. I plan to resume soon and would like rollback rights to make it easier. However, I mostly edit on my school computer so I am unable to use any tools such as Huggle, RedWarn, etc. Thank you for considering my request.

Note from 07:07, 6 December 2024 (UTC): I had just been informed that RedWarn can be used on a school computer, so it's very likely that I will be using it. xRozuRozuteacups 23:57, 5 December 2024 (UTC)

I have been reverting vandalism by undoing edits, warning users, and monitoring several pages to keep them protected. Rollback rights would make my efforts faster and more efficient. I am familiar with WP:VANDAL. ZyphorianNexus (talk) 07:15, 9 December 2024 (UTC)

I have been reverting vandalism since I created my account. Although it appears I am a new user, I also have experience editing Wikipedia and reverting vandalism as an IP for many years (which I will not be disclosing due to security concerns). The rollback right will help me revert vandalism faster, which is why I am requesting it. PersonAccount 🐉 (talk) 20:08, 13 December 2024 (UTC)

PersonAccount, to be honest, no, it doesn't appear you are a new user. Which is okay if all previous activity was without having an account and without disruption. It will take longer than for other users until the trust for manually granting permissions is there in your case. It isn't yet, to me. Unless someone else grants rollback in the next week or so, I'll decline this with a recommendation not to ask for permissions until your account is a year old. Regarding rollback in particular, Twinkle and Ultraviolet will do just fine. ~ ToBeFree (talk) 02:11, 15 December 2024 (UTC)

I am finally starting to have a WP:CLUE, though I still deserve a good whack to the face with some WP:TROUT more often than I would like. While redwarn/UV is nice, it is not very fast to load diffs in the browser the way that I do at the moment (it is surprisingly resource intensive), and I think Huggle would help quite a bit along with reducing mistakes made as diffs would be clearer with less lag and more efficient resource usage. I have made mistakes, and will continue to make mistakes, but I find myself leaving more and more diffs untouched now that I realize more often when I don't have a WP:CLUE. Any advice is welcome, and advice on if I should still be using RedWarn or if there is some reason I should switch to UV would be welcome as well.  💬 04:16, 15 December 2024 (UTC)

Being able to mass-rollback would've come in handy the last few days when dealing with cleaning up after an editor who had made a mess with adding copyvio images across a large number of articles (on multiple occasions). It was suggested that I requesting the rights for handling it easier in future. RachelTensions (talk) 05:54, 15 December 2024 (UTC)

Reason for requesting rollback rights: I'm quite active in the Recent Changes, and having the rollback feature would make reverting vandalism easier and quicker. jolielover♥talk 07:00, 15 December 2024 (UTC)
