Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Flipkart, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Economic Times (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

DYK Reviews in general

[edit]

For your convenience in reviewing DYK nominations.

A new article has no need for expansion. How much expansion is required on older articles depends on the subject of the article. And if it's a recently promoted Good Article, that kicks it into another category also.

There are also many other items that need to be checked in a review besides date and length. Hope the above links are helpful to you. — Maile (talk) 16:33, 29 November 2013 (UTC)

Thank you for the stroopwafels. When I first started reviewing DYKs, only about 18 months ago, I was inept. I think my first one was eyeballing the article and posting something clueless like, "Oh, yeah, it looks good to me." I learned one mistake at a time, and by paying attention to what other editors were catching in reviews. I'm still not sure how to review a Good Article, since that is a recent addition to the process. I finally made my own checklist so the next pair of eyes would know exactly what I checked. Variation is below. You'll figure out what works best for you personally. Good luck with DYK. — Maile (talk) 22:26, 30 November 2013 (UTC)
  • QPQ done by (user name)
  • Article created by-or Article moved from user page by (user name) on (date) and has (number) characters of readable prose
Note: No matter what the DYK check says about date of article created, if it also indicates a date it was moved from User space, that is the date DYK recognizes it became an article. Date-wise, what happens in user space doesn't count.
  • (if an expansion) Size of readable prose in article on the date right before expansion is the base for measuring expansion
  • (if an expansion) 5X expansion for most articles, 2X expansion for BLP that had no sourcing
  • Every paragraph must have at least once source
  • Hook length (less than 200 characters) and must be sourced at the end of the article sentence it refers to
  • NPOV
  • Image source and license on Commons

These tools are in the upper right hand corner of the edit window of the review template

  • QPQ check (to verify if a self-nominator has more than 5 DYKs, thereby requiring they do a QPQ)
  • Copyvio check (not very thorough, but is supposed to check the entire article)
  • Duplication Detector (for checking one source at a time)
  • Disambig links tool
  • External links tool
  • Thank you so much for all these tips in general. Looking forward to review properly the next time I do so. EhthicallyYours! 08:41, 1 December 2013 (UTC)

Freies Volk review

[edit]

I've done what I can, but could only go so far because of the sourcing. Here's some advice I give you:

1) Wikipedia is global, and DYK accepts nominations sourced in all languages, and has reviewers who understand many languages - and in fact, several who are fluent in German. No need to suggest to an editor they provide sourcing in any particular language.
2) Stick to reviews where you understand the language of the sourcing. There will be reviewers for the other languages.
3) If the article has a minimum 1,500 characters, it's fine. No need to suggest the editor expand the article just because of length. You might want to peruse the DYK talk page debate on raising that minimum length.

Good luck in future reviews. — Maile (talk) 17:21, 1 December 2013 (UTC)

AfD closure

[edit]

Why did you close that Aerica discussion without letting an actual discussion take place? Is there some reason that you closed it after it had been open for two hours? NinjaRobotPirate (talk) 16:03, 11 December 2013 (UTC)

I guessed it was an inappropriate nomination by a user named ArticleForDeletion who now might have been blocked for username policy violation. It had been nominated twice earlier, and resulted in keeps. However, I regret if I have made some serious blunder and I am really sorry for that, if you feel like, do revert my close and let the discussion continue. I am a relatively new editor with 550 edits now and I am still learning. Thank you for pointing out. Ethically (Yours) 16:07, 11 December 2013 (UTC)
Well, my biggest concern was that you might have used the close as a supervote. The nominator was blocked because of his username. His behavior wasn't a consideration. Second, consensus can change. Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Zack Martin was closed near-unanimously as Keep in November 2013, but Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Zack Martin (2nd nomination) was closed near-unanimously as Delete in December 2013. That's obviously a bit of an extreme example. I don't know if the Aerican debate would turn out any differently this time, but I think it could have attracted a few merge or delete votes. It's not a huge deal, but I thought that maybe a fan of the article was silencing debate on the issue – especially given that it was closed almost as soon as it was opened. If you legitimately believe that it was going to be speedily kept and you have no bias toward the article, then I'm satisfied. It's good that you're volunteering to help out, but I'd advise that you let discussions go for longer than two hours. NinjaRobotPirate (talk) 16:59, 11 December 2013 (UTC)

Chennai Express

[edit]

Even though Chennai Express is awaiting its second GA review, there are a few suggestions I could give u:

  • The lead has too many sources; As per this, the lead does not have to include sources if the content is already there in the body of the article.
  • Dhoom 3 is linked twice in the lead. Pls avoid overlinking.
  • The film received mixed reviews, but the "film's soundtrack, composed by the Vishal-Shekhar duo, also received positive reviews from critics" - ???
  • Doesn't "wrapped up" sound a bit slangy?
  • Please rework the third paragraph of the lead.
  • The plot is more than 806 words long. As per this, plot summaries should be 400 and 700 words.

Pls fix all these issues, and happy editing! I wish u all the best for the GA review. Kailash29792 (talk) 06:49, 5 January 2014 (UTC)

Greatest Mystery Solvers

[edit]

Greatest Mystery Solvers is private. I do not sell it. I only give it to my friends for reading. Are you mad? This not a hoax. It's private. Don't delete it. If you delete it, then i will call you an Idiot.

The point here is that none of the books and stories you have written about are notable enough. It needs a significant number of reliable sources for it to become eligible as an article here. Quoting you, "Greatest Mystery Solvers is private. I do not sell it. I only give it to my friends for reading" Given this I don't guess there is any possible source in this internet that reviews the book. And even if it does get reviewed, it's not going to get reviewed by someone like the New York Times, or say the The Daily Telegraph, is it? On another note, I would humbly request you to be civil while speaking with other editors. Let's say this is one of the fundamental pillars of Wikipedia. Thanks. I sure will! I guess while I am here, I'd like to ask a question about modifying signatures - as you can see I have modified mine, but how do I make it so that the arrows don't appear purple after I click them? Is there a certain code I have to use? Sandshark23 talkcontribs 10:19, 8 February 2014 (UTC)
Although I do create websites and well know CSS, I'm afraid I'm not sure how to do it on-wiki here, because (a)Wikipedia does not allow the usage of <style> tag, and (b) No support for <a> tag. However, I may give you a clue. We need to use CSS for that. Using this as the code, a:visited {color:x;} where x is the color name, you can modify visited link colors. I have made a script that greatly simplifies looking at links in Wikipedia. Here's it: User:Ethically Yours/link.css. Paste importScript('User:Ethically Yours/link.css') in your vector.css page. However I have something to offer you and I don't want to leave you stranded. I offer you something cooler: cross hair signature. Use it if you like. Try hovering your mouse over your modified, custom signature below. You'll see a "+" kind of thing. Try it:

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited EBay, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Defacing (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

It's OK to remove this message. Also, to stop receiving these messages, follow these opt-out instructions. Thanks, DPL bot (talk) 08:50, 30 May 2014 (UTC)

A tag has been placed on File:The Siege Book.gif requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the image is an unused redundant copy (all pixels the same or scaled down) of an image in the same file format, which is on Wikipedia (not on Commons), and all inward links have been updated.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines.
