July 2012 / WSNE
[edit]At least two people have attempted to add WSNE-FM to this list. WSNE-FM is not a Boston radio station. They don't report in the Boston book, aren't considered in the Boston market area. WSNE-FM is a PROVIDENCE, RI area radio station. It is listed in Arbitron as a PROVIDENCE station, not a BOSTON one. Please do not add it. NECRATSpeak to me 05:24, 10 July 2012 (UTC)
RfC - Removal of out of market stations
[edit]The Boston radio market is big enough on it's own that it does not need to include rimshot stations, such as WSRS, The Portsmouth-Dover stations, and the Manchester, NH stations (both of which serve separate markets of their own). It can be said that Providence, RI stations and New Bedford stations also overlap as much. Where is the line drawn? Maybe with the single exception of WSRS, I say we should remove those not officially designated in the Boston Market. So the RfC is for removal. NECRATPlates On 03:01, 25 October 2012 (UTC)
Why I re-added WXLO to the Boston radio template.
[edit]The station advertises to Merrimack Valley, Metro-West and 128 corridor businesses a lot more often than all of the Worcester County stations, except for WAAF (which has a simulcast in the immediate Boston area anyways). It also has had many pieces of imaging that go something like "{insert town} this is your variety". Most, if not all of them have to do with Middlessex, Essex and Norfolk County communities. Personally, I've heard Danvers, Newton, Lexington, Lowell, Concord, Norwood and Foxborough, among others. The station is in the Manchester template, so why not here? Also, a media kit for the station (which recently got removed, along with all of Cumulus' media templates) puts it as a "Worcester-Boston" station. The station has been taking strides to ultimately become a Boston rimshot AND remain a Worcester market station/catering towards Southern NH, and it's notable. Newenglandradio (talk) 19:16, 4 December 2016 (UTC) I have also added WSNE and WSRS. The reason for this is their protected contours. WSNE's contour covers all of the city and at least part of all its neighboring communities, while WSRS's gets very close to the Prudential Tower.[1]Newenglandradio (talk) 19:28, 4 December 2016 (UTC)
Worcester/Providence/New Hampshire stations.
[edit]These stations do not count as ownership of the companys that own them for their count in Boston. They count for Worcester/Providence/New Hampshire. That's why they should not be included in with Boston and included in only with the area they count and core market to. Yes, these outlying Boston stations can be received in parts of the Boston area alongside Boston stations, however they do not market to Boston. No way does WSNE market outside of Bristol County, MA and Rhode Island and cater to anyone outside of Bristol County MA and Rhode Island, yet it has a strong signal into the suburban Boston area, particularily south of the Mass Pike and outside of 128, and has quite a bit of listening in that same area. However, that doesn't count it as a Boston station, and should not be placed as such. The other major Providence stations (92.3, 94.1, 95.5, 105.1) have identical reception and listening in that same area, and yet those are not added. As for Worcester, WSRS/WXLO, heck even WAAF's 107.3 channel (which got kept here because WAAF does target Boston, largely with the 97.7 frequency however) do not belong in the Boston area template, and a lot of the core Worcester area including Worcester itself is in the listening range of the Boston stations itself, and especially the areas to the east of Worcester which can be considered parts of both markets. The communities WSRS/WXLO serves are either core Worcester or that are Worcester/Boston combined, and there is a lot of overlap between Worcester and Boston, so of course stations from both markets can be received in the same area respectively. However, WSRS/WXLO are marketed as Worcester core stations and count for ownership as Worcester stations. They just correctly cover the core Worcester areas and the populated Worcester/Boston combined areas, as they are correctly supposed to do to get core revenue out of that area. That however, should not market them as Boston stations. Boston stations are really only stations that count for ownership in the Boston core area, which WSNE/WSRS/WXLO do not, that have strong coverage in downtown Boston, which those outlying Boston stations do not have in downtown Boston, only in the outlying areas, and those outlying areas are considered overlap of both Boston and Worcester/Providence/New Hampshire/Cape Cod respectively. Not to mention, none of those outlying stations even transmit from Boston proper, they transmit from the outlying market and their strongest signal is in that area and their signal just can be received in parts of the Boston, however it doesn't make those Boston stations, since they primary target that outlying area they core serve and there are templates for those areas where that station belongs. They do not belong in the Boston template. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 100.0.92.12 (talk) 23:30, 7 December 2016 (UTC) I'm not disagreeing with you or anything, but WSNE does advertise to some places like Mendon, Foxborough, Avon and Carver, and WXLO does to Bock Toyota (the regular one), 128 Volvo and others that are so close to Boston that WXLO deserves to be included. - I agree with 100.0.92.12.Stereorock (talk)
- Addendum-It seems to me that a lot of what N.E.R. said constitutes original research.Stereorock (talk) 22:49, 8 December 2016 (UTC)
