Interest and research support
[edit]I'm looking at starting new project, possibly life long, as I explore the origins and variations of tractors globally. I plan to begin my research and documentation here... https://tractorsandtables.com/
HOWEVER given what I'll be exploring, I wanted to share with those here that manage, care, and maintain this article. hEKKIDNEUIFEWH EWHRF EWFYHREWBF EWYHFBEW HF UEF EHW FUJEW±−××××92.178.197.10 (talk) 18:59, 5 May 2022 (UTC)Cite error: There are <ref>
tags on this page without content in them (see the help page).Specifically I'm looking at the following for my research:
- Country/locations first application of tractors
- Types, brands, and creators of those tractors used
- Current and pass development
- TBD...
Along this journey I figured I could help with this article.
- Are there any important features that need to be added to this article?
- Are there any immediate needs?
very interested in helping.

Typo on image Nr. 3
[edit]Image Nr. 3 on the page describes a "XTZ-243K" tractor. This is a typo, it is supposed to say "KhTZ-243K". Since the page is semi-protected I am not able to edit it. IlyaTorshov (talk) 22:45, 15 September 2022 (UTC)
Removal of swathe of Safety text
[edit]Pending discussion here, I have removed a recent worthy but probably unencyclopaedic safety addition and salutary tale. Please discuss and reach consensus there. WP:BRD applies.
In general Wikipedia is not a safety manual.
The material is not lost. It remains in the article hostory, and can be re-added after consensus is formed, at any time. 🇺🇦 FiddleTimtrent FaddleTalk to me 🇺🇦 20:46, 29 September 2022 (UTC)
- With a better understanding of the "Safety" scope, I propose adding one additional paragraph specific to ISO 23205:2014, which relates to a tractor's instructional seat and intended purpose. This along with a couple added statistics in the opening paragraph could bring added value to the section, in my opinion.
- I have created these newly proposed additions in a copy of the section over in my sandbox (bolded portions would be added). I welcome any feedback before editing the article again. Thank you for the guidance. NOC1997 (talk) 16:24, 23 November 2022 (UTC)
- @NOC1997 That certainly appears more encyclopaedic. It might be that it merits a separate article on the formal mechanisms for tractor safety, rather than an inclusion in this article.
- What you need to do now is seek to form a WP:consensus for inclusion 🇺🇦 FiddleTimtrent FaddleTalk to me 🇺🇦 18:22, 23 November 2022 (UTC)

[edit]"The truly portable engine was invented in 1893 by William Tuxford of Boston, Lincolnshire who started manufacture of an engine built around a locomotive-style boiler with horizontal smoke tubes."
Please change this to 1839. ErastVanDoren (talk) 22:03, 25 June 2023 (UTC)

inclusion of "sleeve hitch"
[edit]there's an ISO standard for "sleeve hitches", which appear to be a common hitch in garden tractors, used for ground-engaging implements like ploughs.
Multiple vendors ( Cub Cadet, Craftsman, Johnny Products) manufacture them. Several manufactuers of garden tractors and at least one third-party, Brinly, manufacture implements. Someone even nerdier than me bought SleeveHitch.com to write about sleeve hitches, and various tractor forums are replete with references to sleeve hitches. But I have yet to find a useful secondary source.
Based on WP:Bold, I added a brief section on the subject on the main page, however it was promptly reverted. So I'll pose the question here with the info I have gathered: does this warrant mention on this wikipedia page (or perhaps another one)? Notecharlie (talk) 18:26, 1 July 2024 (UTC)
- The way we determine what warrants mention on Wikipedia is to look at what the independent reliable sources have to say. In this case they say nothing - so Wikipedia, too, should say nothing.
- Vendor product pages and ISO standards aren't sufficient. One can find standards and vendor sites for an almost endless number of products - for example pipe fittings alone would number in the thousands. But since Wikipedia is WP:NOT a product catalog, we correctly do not write about all those products. MrOllie (talk) 18:32, 1 July 2024 (UTC)
