I'm from France and never heard of it, when i search the subject in french literature, nothing exist. This is quite a crazy story and yet, this only appear after 2010 on the english web with no foundation. I agree, major tone, wording and sourcing issues in this article. Many of the claims in this article appear to be embellished. The central origin source appears to be this article https://books.google.fr/books?id=EQkHAAAAcAAJ&pg=RA1-PA87&lpg=RA1-PA87 as well as a few others written by Pierre-François Percy. Just 1 example: I’ve read the source material of the author with the most citations on this page, Jan Bondeson, and in his books he seems to state things that Percy(the first to ever write about Tarrare) himself never said or did. I don’t know how this article has been up for so long without the necessary revisions.
