Meaning of Name
[edit]How about giving the etymology of the word "Creagus." No point in telling us the meaning of only half the name.76.123.208.229 (talk) 12:00, 15 September 2008 (UTC)
- I was looking for that - alas unsuccessfully. Cheers, Casliber (talk · contribs) 12:46, 15 September 2008 (UTC)
File:Swallow-tailed-gull-dorsal.jpg to appear as POTD
[edit]Hello! This is a note to let the editors of this article know that File:Swallow-tailed-gull-dorsal.jpg will be appearing as picture of the day on March 13, 2015. You can view and edit the POTD blurb at Template:POTD/2015-03-13. If this article needs any attention or maintenance, it would be preferable if that could be done before its appearance on the Main Page. Thanks! — Crisco 1492 (talk) 00:00, 23 February 2015 (UTC)
Eye Ring Color
[edit]Two lines in the description section state "In the breeding season, the adult has a black plumaged head and a bright red fleshy rim around each eye. Outside the breeding season, the head is white and the eye rim becomes black." and cite Harris's "Breeding Ecology of the Swallow-tailed Gull". However, that source does not describe this phenomenon anywhere. It states that their breeding plumage includes a dark gray hood, while non-breeding plumage includes a white hood with a collar and slight dark area around the eyes. This source does not describe changes in eye ring color varying with the breeding season, nor do any other sources cited. Unfortunately, I don't have any substitute information about the eye ring. I see the difference in photos of breeding/nonbreeding adults, but this citation definitely does not support that. I'm new here, however, and don't want to jump in and start changing information without asking for feedback! -- TinselWolf (talk) 02:32, 26 March 2018 (UTC)
