Simon Ramo's Parents Jewish?

[edit]

As stated, I reverted myself over this issue after reading the Ramo interview here: http://www.ieee.org/portal/cms_docs_iportals/iportals/aboutus/history_center/oral_history/pdfs/Ramo244.pdf. If his parents were indeed Jewish, please state source. If no credible source is cited, I suggest reverting.Kibbitzer (talk) 23:38, 13 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Space Technology Laboratories spun off?

[edit]

My research indicates TRW renamed STL to "TRW Systems Group" in May of 1965 [1], and that only the computer portion of STL was transferred to Bunker-Ramo. I propose modifying the "spun off" sentence to reflect this. Opinions? Overjive (talk) (talk) 18:25, 17 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Also, Bunker-Ramo was formed in 1964 per this ref [2]. Overjive (talk) 20:59, 18 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
There was controversy and a congressional investigations here. TRW won the contract to do systems analysis oversight on Atlas (almost taking it away from Convair, where the missile was actually designed). The aviation industry forced TRW to divest itself of space related manufacturing that competed with them, because TRW had an unfair advantage as the systems oversight contractor. 67.160.43.110 (talk) 08:07, 13 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
[edit]

I have not been able to re-locate his bio on the IEEE website. Meanwhile, here is an IEEE oral-history link: [3] Overjive (talk) 21:48, 20 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

A line that both Ramo's and Wooldridge's pages share are in conflict.

[edit]

From Ramo article, Career, 2nd graph, first sentence;

"with Wooldridge concentrating on investment and general business aspects while Ramo led research"

From Dean Wooldridge article, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dean_Wooldridge, 3rd graph, 2nd sentence;

"with Ramo concentrating on investment and general business aspects while Wooldridge led research"

These two lines contradict one another and I just wanted to inform the leading authors so they may be corrected. Thank you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by JimmyBook (talkcontribs) 00:28, 4 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Father of the ICBM

[edit]

Ramo tried to attach this title to himself, but it really never stuck. Karel Bossart is commonly known as the "Father of the Atlas". In fact, the Atlas missile was mostly designed before the Teapot committee and Ramo entered the picture. Using his political connections, Ramo got Convair ousted as the prime contractor on the ICBM project (which they had worked on since 1946) and took over systems analysis oversight.
