Fair use rationale for Image:Rikishi2.jpg

[edit]

Image:Rikishi2.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 05:06, 6 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Removal of "origin" info from the introduction

[edit]

I've removed the following paragraph from the introduction. "Origin Samoans originate from the Olmecs(ancient Africans)and the Red-Indians by blood. The Red Indians are a result of mixing between the Olmec and Chinese. The Olmecs were ancient africans who migrated to south america thousands of years ago. These people were indigenous to america until the chinese people arrive and mixed with them thinking there were descendants of the black 'Yi' chinese people. This mix resulted in the Red indians. Recently they also have some uropean blood during mixes in slavery. 203.213.20.103 (talk) 09:44, 3 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Photo of Samoans restored

[edit]

This edit removed this photograph of Samoan people with an edit summary explaining that the material is inappropriate-- as far as I can tell, the photograph is an accurate representation of how Samoan girls appeared at the time the photograph was taken. I've revered that edit as per WP:NOTCENSORED. Orange Suede Sofa (talk) 04:02, 24 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Photo of Samoan girls

[edit]

The photo might not be inappropriate per se, but it is definitely out of place. Such a photo belongs in an article discussing native Samoans in a historical context, and even then I believe there are much more suited photos than this one. A current up-to-date photo or no photo at all would suffice. It seems that the photo is also duplicated/copy-pasted in other articles discussing Samoans in general, which strikes me. When the very first picture discussing Europeans would be a picture showing a scene from the 1900's that would be similarly out of place. Please delete this photo from this page. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 62.194.99.152 (talk) 10:15, 15 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Samoans vs. Samoan Americans

[edit]

I am so confused. I was editing the Hawaii page "Ancestry groups" category under the "Demographics" section, but I didn't know how to label the people of America Samoa. First I labeled them as Samoan Americans, then American Nationals then Samoans. The people of America Samoa are not American citizens unless one of their parents is a U.S. citizen...but Samoan Americans are American citizens of Samoan origin. Samoans are split between Samoa, American Samoa and the US, so I guess someone with more knowledge should fix my "population of Hawaii" chart edit to reflect the proper label. Famous Samoan

[edit]

I added some images of famous Samoans to the infobox. I tried to fair as possible adding people from different period of history, different fields and different regions (American Samoa, Samoa and New Zealand? also having rugby, American football and wrestling and no repeats). I think nine is enough for now. There is a shortage of females at the point, no writers, musicians, or artists since I could find any in the Samoan people category, and no really good image for Malietoa Tanumafili II (he has to be on here). Anybody more knowledgable should add and remove.--KAVEBEAR (talk) 02:45, 13 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
