[edit]Laz conspiracy?
[edit]What does Armenian language has to do with this town? The area was historically inhabited by Laz people ethnically closely linked to Georgians, who speak Laz language. Alsandro 19:17, 7 June 2006 (UTC)
Some of the villages on the highlands (yayla) were inhabited by Armenians. Not that Rize is not only the name of a town but also the whole province. Filanca 11:37, 23 September 2006 (UTC)

Etymology and source
[edit]The source which is used in ref No 1 as the source for the etymology of Rize, first of all, is not an "encyclopedia" as claimed in the article but a local website called "Karalahana.com". I wonder why and how it has been presented as an "encyclopedia" without being one. This being said, the website in question shows two possibilities for the origin of the name Rize, but only one of those names is one of the two used in the article's etymology section with reference to this "encyclopedia" (sic)... --E4024 (talk) 22:39, 21 September 2012 (UTC)

Customs house
[edit]Servet-i Funun reveals in WWI Rize had a customs house. I wonder if that figures into the trade done in the city WhisperToMe (talk) 23:42, 13 March 2021 (UTC)

[edit]The first paragraph has quite a lot of details but with no citations. Reliable sources must be provided to back up the information. Otherwise it may be removed. PAper GOL (talk) 18:12, 14 August 2023 (UTC)
- Pretty sure the first part can easily be sourced with a Köppen study that takes elevation into account (Beck et al. comes to mind). The second part is trickier, but [2] might be of help. Uness232 (talk) 19:44, 14 August 2023 (UTC)
