WikiProject Palestine

[edit]

I fail to see how Qalansawe is part of the WikiProject Palestine. It is in Israel! -NYC2TLV 21:18, 27 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

WikiPalestine is not a project restricted to just things in "Palestine" (which technically doesn't exist.) Rather it is a boardbased project and includes the history of the region stretching back to the British Mandate of Palestine and in this case, it appears the connection is based on this being an Arab town that has existed prior to the creation of Israel (see the category "Arab localities in Palestine 1948" on the page.) The banner doesn't affect much as its only on the talk page. The ratings can differ for WikiProject Israel, thus the banners can co-exist in a parallel and non-competing fashion. --Abnn 01:36, 28 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

City or town?

[edit]

The city's population is 18,500. Under Israeli law, a town must surpass 20,000 inhabitants before getting city status.--RM (Be my friend) 01:15, 31 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Crusader sources

[edit]

These are (some) of the times this place is mentioned in Crusader sources, according to RHH index (RRH p.39) and RHH Ad index (RHH Ad 121a, 539b, 539c, 554b):

  • In 1128, RRH Ad p. 9-10, No. 121a, "given to the Hospitallers by the knight Godfrey of Flujea."
  • In 1135: RRH p. 39, No. 159 "Geraldus Kalansuae"
  • in 1166 : RRH p.111, No. 426 a viscount and a lord of Calanzun were mentioned
  • In 1176: RRH Ad p. 32 No 539b (not in Pringle)

RRH Ad No 539c?? nothing there

  • in 1177/87 RRH Ad p. 34, No. 554b Frankish settlers

1945: Tsur Moshe: what is the name today?

[edit]

In 1945 the population of Qalansawe was counted with that of "Tsur Moshe", (which I assume was a Jewish settlement). Does anyone know what Tsur Moshe is called today? Cheers, Huldra (talk) 21:29, 11 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Tzur Moshe is about 6km to the west, and it was already there at the same place in 1945. So that must be it, though it is surprising that two locations so far apart would be enumerated together. There must be an explanation but I don't know what it is. Zerotalk 13:59, 12 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
