note
[edit]I've been trying to parse out the differences between the different named autoimmune thyroid syndromes and have just about been ready to decide that they're just a continuum of the same disease. First, during the active phase there is active destruction of the thyroid (not sure which comes first...autoreactive antibodies or autoreactive T cell destruction) which is often described as Grave's disease. Then as the thyroid scars in it becomes hypoactive and the condition is described as Hashimoto's disease. Ord's seems to be intermediate in degree. I beg for clarification! doctorwolfie (talk) 10:59, 25 May 2012 (UTC)
