Sexual orientation
[edit]This isn't important to my opinion of him, but it is important to the article. Is he gay or not in real life?
- From the article: He married actress Amy Spanger in 2002, and appeared with her on Broadway in the musical Chicago. Which means that unless he is closeted, he is not homosexual.—WAvegetarian•(talk) 05:45, 6 June 2006 (UTC)
How is whether he is gay or not important to the article? Why can't he be judged by his performances? Labeling is not necessary, now is it? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 24.136.66.22 (talk • contribs) 15:55, 4 December 2006 (UTC).
- As you can read the expressed question, I imagine there is no need to ask if there is any necessity for the answer. I think this counter question is unnecessary. If you want to take it to that point, there actually isn't even any need to include his personal name, origin, age, picture, gender, private issues or other roles he might have played too, is there? Why can't he be judged by his height or hair color or area of habitation? We should all ask people like you what we need to know first, before we use an encyclopedia to still our thirst for knowledge, I reckon. -- 92.229.21.199 (talk) 06:19, 27 June 2011 (UTC)
but it says a lot that, in homophobic america, a straight actor can portray a gay character so well, right? 76.217.121.84 17:02, 20 August 2007 (UTC)
His sexuality can be important for an article, but as said above over a year ago all signs point to "straight" and this is already very adequately covered in the article by mentioning his wife. JayKeaton (talk) 20:37, 22 December 2007 (UTC)
If he were playing a black man, we would for sure mention the dissonance between his personal experiences and those of the character. This is just another example of how Wikipedia minimizes or excludes discussion on queer topics. I'm not sure whether it's complicity or conspiratorial, but the policies on the "biographies of living people" are an extension of "the closet" and effectively writes queers out of history. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 205.211.168.17 (talk) 17:13, 15 January 2010 (UTC)
- Brillantly put. Just take the unsigned December 2006 answer above as the typical example for this effect. As your own personal interest ask a private question about someone's sexuality on a Wiki Discussion page and you'll get this sort of "Why would you need to know"-answer. Ask the same about race, gender, religion or nationality and everyone will immediately see a supposedly scientific interest in some celebrity's private life. Overprotective liberal bias, if you ask me. -- 92.229.21.199 (talk) 06:19, 27 June 2011 (UTC)
- That publicity shot we've got in the infobox has a strangely camp appearance, but I'd still bet against it. If there are any articles seriously speculating that he is, or discussing what it would mean to his status (and his performance in Six Feet Under) if he was, by all means add it. Otherwise the mention of his marriage and current relationship is enough--MartinUK (talk) 23:40, 1 September 2008 (UTC)

I am the real Michael Carlisle Hall!!!
Not Carlyle as the article suggests. It also says this on the interview that Wikipedia cited. —Preceding unsigned comment added by CKyle22 (talk • contribs) 09:20, 1 December 2009 (UTC)
- And it says "Colleges (Julie benz) bless her heart is pranking you twiterers :)". That's clearly not his actual account. --Conti|✉ 12:26, 1 December 2009 (UTC)
- Okay so it isn't his Twitter. But on the article Wikipedia itself cited for information on his name, he spells it Carlisle. This is the article I'm reffering to. http://www.radiotimes.com/content/show-features/dexter/interview-with-michael-c-hall/--CKyle22 (talk) 13:27, 1 December 2009 (UTC)
- Actually, you're right. There seems to be a lot of confusion on the net about his second name, tho, so maybe it's best not to mention it at all until we get multiple, reliable sources about this. --Conti|✉ 13:39, 1 December 2009 (UTC)
