lady bugs

[edit]

Isopropyl Methoxy Pyrazine is actually produced in the hemolymph of all lady bugs not just asian lady bugs although they do produce more then other species. It is what they use as a natural defense against predators and is why they are brightly coloured (as a warning). It may be a desirable flavour compound found in wines however the compound excreted by lady bugs is known to have a foul odour and taste. This compound has also contaminated wines when there are asian lady bug infestations at vineyards. The article should probably be changed to reflect this.

Reference 2 ^ Methoxypyrazine in wines and vines link leads to an abandoned domain and the target page is infested with spam. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.181.73.40 (talk) 06:15, 21 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I have now removed it. Thanks for noticing the problem and reporting it here. Please feel free to take care of problems like this yourself next time - this is the "encyclopedia that anyone can edit", afterall. :) -- Ed (Edgar181) 14:09, 21 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
