[edit]I wonder if we should eventually link up to every track that ever held a race. Road America even held a single race. I added in the exhaustive list from racing-reference.com. There are higher priorities right now. Royalbroil 01:36, 28 February 2006 (UTC)
- My answer would be a resounding yes, tempered with agreeing that there are more important things than listing the fact that West Virginia International Speedway held four NASCAR Cup races from 1963-1971. If I get time, I'll work on transferring over the list to the WP, and we can work on de-red linking from there. -slowpokeiv 03:15, 28 February 2006 (UTC)
- Working on it now. And yes, there are a lot of redlinks, but there should be enough info available to create at least a stub for each one with some race history. I've got a couple of really good references, but only through 2002 and only for Cup races - hopefully someone else can help fill in the remaining blanks. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Duncan1800 (talk • contribs) 08:49, 24 February 2008 (UTC)
- The Sprint Cup section is now complete (including the aforementioned West Virginia International Speedway!), though I will have to reorder the table alphabetically at some point. I also need to pick through all the info gleaned from NASCAR Encyclopedia, which dates to 2003, and make sure that everything jives with modern reality. I'm also fairly confident there are some red links that could be fixed just by searching for the track's more current name and changing links as needed. The next goal, though, is to complete the Nationwide and Craftsman sections, which should be much easier given their much shorter and less complex histories. Track listing complete!
[edit]Having now taken several deep breaths, I can now report that the historical track listings (for Sprint, Nationwide, Craftsman, and "other") are as complete as I believe they can be. This does not mean I'm done, though - being a perfectionist of sorts, I'm still working on confirming or denying existence and current status of each track (by sourcing to appropriate websites or historical sites when available), as well as making sure that all the names are correct and that as many red links as possible are weeded out (by cross-checking with varying track names through history). As of now, I've gotten through Connecticut (going state-by-state). Once all that's complete, I'll reorganize the underlying code on the Sprint Cup section so that the basic sort is alphabetical by track name, rather than by state name (which is how I originally entered them).
I may eventually rework the table for current tracks, since something about it simply seems off to me - I'm not exactly sure what, but I'll think about it and get back to it later. In the meantime, the small work continues. Duncan1800 (talk) 08:52, 12 March 2008 (UTC)
Why is Kentucky Speedway not listed, despite the track hosting the Truck series since 2000, the Busch/Nationwide series since 2001, and hosted its first Sprint Series race in 2011 and will again in 2012? See http://www.kentuckyspeedway.com/ for info. JMos26 (talk) 01:31, 29 May 2012 (UTC)
Calder Park
[edit]As far as I know Calder park hosted a NASCAR race in 1988. Even though it was only an exhibition race, should the track still go on this page?Baggers89 (talk) 07:42, 28 October 2008 (UTC)
Kill the market stuff
[edit]We have this, so let's kill those entries of the table. --190.135.33.9 (talk) 10:21, 4 April 2010 (UTC)
Agreed; I just happened upon this article and considered that the Notes column could hold some bit of unique information about each track — such as Bristol having the steepest banking, or Richmond being the only track to hold all of its NASCAR events at night. —zerobandwidth (talk) 18:12, 29 March 2011 (UTC)
Map
[edit]I just wanted to point out a few errors on the map which need to be corrected. For one, Memphis Motorsports Park is located in Memphis, TN, not SW North Carolina, second, it, and a few others like Autodromo Rodriguez, Milwaukee, and Nashville are no longer on the schedule. Also, in my opinion, the only two superspeedways in NASCAR are Talledega and Daytona. I don't have sources but Thompson International Speedway is .625 miles, not .5 miles, Huntsville Speedway is .250 miles, not .400, and Old Dominion Speedway is .375. Also, for Music City Motorplex, a quick google search will bring up that the track was saved and will not be torn down. Southside has reopened also (pretty sure). I know the Pure Stocks that ran Southside ran at Old Dominion in 2011 but I think it reopened around July. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 96.241.157.215 (talk) 23:37, 12 October 2011 (UTC)
Location
[edit]Just wondering, why are the track locations in the tables written in such an odd manner, i.e., State (City)? Would not the more traditional City, ST be easier to follow? ("ST" being the state abbreviation pipe-linked to the state.) Or perhaps there is a reason it is done the way it is? → Michael J Ⓣ Ⓒ Ⓜ 06:29, 28 February 2013 (UTC)
Any thoughts on timeline graphics?
[edit]I noticed that https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_IndyCar_Series_racetracks has a nice timeline below the track list that really helps a lesser follower (or big follower!) get a better picture of where they've been running and how much history different places have. Any thoughts of such a table here? Or better yet, perhaps SVG graphics along the lines of https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:AFC_Bournemouth_League_Performance.svg could be worked together? Might be interested in making that happen as great graphics tell stories beautifully. JeopardyTempest (talk) 16:29, 22 May 2016 (UTC)
- In contrast to the Indycar there in NASCAR however over 100 different racetracks. This will be a pretty big graphics. To keep it simple, you should then split the ovals in shorttracks and speedways. Road courses should be clearly in the minority. --Mark McWire (talk) 17:09, 22 May 2016 (UTC)

Soldier Field
[edit]Per sources used at Motorsport at Soldier Field, the information on Soldier Field here is incorrect. The track was used more than once for NASCAR (it was used for multiple races over two racing seasons) and it was no longer cinder by the time it was used by NASCAR (it was paved). SecretName101 (talk) 08:42, 20 November 2023 (UTC)
- Fixed this SecretName101 (talk) 08:46, 20 November 2023 (UTC)
- There was only one single Cup race at this track, as mentioned in your linked article. So I restore the old entry, but change from cinder to paved. Thx for this correction. --Mark McWire (talk) 12:59, 21 November 2023 (UTC)
- @Mark McWire This article is not "List of NASCAR Cup tracks", it is "List of NASCAR tracks". Soldier Field held more than one NASCAR race event, such has multiple Convertible Division races along with other NASCAR-sanctioned races in 1956 and 1957. SecretName101 (talk) 16:57, 22 November 2023 (UTC)
- Tracks with Convertible Division races are not part of this list. Only Cup, Xfinity and Trucks. --Mark McWire (talk) 17:32, 22 November 2023 (UTC)
- Just to note again: The list only concerns race tracks on which races were held, which were part of the respective championship season and in which points were awarded. --Mark McWire (talk) 17:42, 22 November 2023 (UTC)
