This article cites no sources, and in particular they are necessary to justify sensational statements such as that he became obsessed with pornography because of taking nude pics of his sisters, and that he broke up with his second wife because she got fed up with being asked to do porno movies. I'm not saying they're not true, but they are borderline encyclopedic even if they are true, and with no refs, they are definitely unencyclopedic. Anchoress 20:35, 12 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

- I have a Serial Killer Enciclopedia at home and I looked it up. The first starement is true, but I have not found any evidence of the latter.
The thing is, it is virtually impossible to prove causation with something like the reason for someone's obsession with pornography. Even if it is in a book, I doubt it can be proven to be 'true'. It may be true that he stated it, but if so the article should be changed to reflect that. Do you see my point? Anchoress 02:11, 24 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I have add references for that statement. It can be found on page 134 of Michael Newton's The Encyclopedia of Serial Killers. Here's the page on Google Books. Nishkid64 (talk) 05:14, 18 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Lake's suicide

[edit]

How about some more info about Lake's suicide? It just appears as a random factoid in relation to the authorities frustration relative charging Ng.

Verifying information on young Leonard Lake

[edit]

Responding to information found on Wikipedia is new to me. In fact, I never realized before today that this internet encyclopedia was based on contributions by pretty much...anyone. This article about young Leonard Lake is disturbing with all the inaccuracies. I don't know where Michael Newton got his information that you are citing in this article, but family members refute his statements of sexual and physical abuse.

Leonard's parents divorced around the time he was in K-1st grade. Donald and Silvia, his siblings, stayed with his mother. Their maternal gradparents helped her raise them. Leonard went to live with his paternal grandparents so his father, Big Leonard, could help them with his upbringing as much as possible since Big Leonard was in active military duty.

The children were not removed from the family because of abuse, but rather divorce. For a single mother during this time period, the ability to raise 3 children on her own was nearly impossible. This is why the children were separated.

Leonard did not act "strange" until AFTER his time in Vietnam. Many, many service men had issues following Vietnam. This is not an excuse for his behavior, but rather to support the fact that Leonard's childhood was not the cause for his psychotic adult behaviors.Pinkfroglegs (talk) 00:15, 16 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Mechanics of suicide

[edit]

Why would he swallow a cyanide capsule? It's a glass capsule that would pass harmlessly through his body, in order to kill himself he'd just need to crush it in his mouth. Southsailor (talk) 04:37, 27 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Marriage

[edit]

I visited Lake at the Oakland hospital after he returned from DaNang in 1970. I met what I was told was his wife. I had lunch with her and I believe she was a dancer, either topless or some such. She was a 'hot' woman and I wondered at the time about the contrast with Lake who was to my knowledge rather geeky. I wondered after reading about his suicide whether this contrast played out psychologically to explain his anger toward women, but that is pure speculation.

Incidentally, this article identifies Lake as a radar operator in the Marines. He was actually a radar electronics technician.

Date of birth

[edit]

The German version of this article has another source that says his birthday might have been 20 July 1946. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 176.0.114.44 (talk) 19:25, 17 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

The 29 Oct 1945 one is the correct date. It is the one given in Lake's entry in the California death index, 6 Jun 1985. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.28.220.140 (talk) 02:38, 14 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
The article has a number of other incorrect dates either way; Lake married first wife Karen in 1969, not 1975. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.28.220.140 (talk) 02:41, 14 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

what about cricket?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sdWYLu78j0Q says that she destroyed evidence after lake killed himself. that implies that she at the very least knew all about it. Claralyn Balazs received immunity. what was her role? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.108.42.70 (talk) 09:31, 14 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

This is Lake's ex-wife, for those unaware. She was granted immunity to testify against Ng, but was never called because prosecutors considered her an unreliable witness and didn't need the testimony anyway. Since she was never tried, there's very little RS about her role; may have destroyed evidence, but we're not allowed to speculate here, and it's a moot point for purposes of this article.
