[edit]The greek words in this article are broken. (I think due to OCR) I have placed strikethroughs through them until they are fixed. The words needed are:
- & 6~vl36.4we or 6~i,~3a4ia: shallow saucers
- irXitcnyE or irXiurrcy~: a small disc or basin, resembling a scale-pan
- X~avLs: a larger disc
- u&νης: a bronze figure (partially correct/translated?)
- Xivra~: the wine thrown/noise made. I think this is "latax" (λάταξ) by looking through an online dict.

- See the link I have added at the end of the article to the Smith work. From this, someone who is more comfortable than I am with the Greek alphabet ought to be able to extract all the needed words. Russ Blau (talk) July 8, 2005 19:56 (UTC)
- I fixed the Greek words, but the "Variations" section repeats some of what has already been said under "Rules of play." -- Flauto Dolce 17:20, 28 January 2007 (UTC)
Referencing of the "kottabos" game in title of stupid magazine
[edit]"Several of Wilde's poems were published in Kottabos, the magazine of Trinity College, Dublin, where the artist had begun his studies." porges 09:23, 24 January 2006 (UTC)
- Woah. I meant to write student, but stupid came out. Damnest Freud!
Pic question
[edit]What is the player in the vase picture holding in his left hand? I see that in a lot of similar pictures. It is as if the player refills the kylix from it. Is it a skyphos? Any info on this? Haiduc 01:06, 6 September 2007 (UTC)
Anglice
[edit]I'm curious about using the Latin word "anglice" to describe the English version of a Greek word. Is this standard? 24.19.32.14 (talk) 04:12, 4 July 2009 (UTC)CatBallou
- I dunno, but I've linked it to help. -Oreo Priest talk 16:16, 4 July 2009 (UTC)
Disambiguation of Antiphanes
[edit]Currently the lead links to Antiphanes, which is a disambiguation page. It seems most likely that the intention was to link to Antiphanes of Berge (based on that article's note that he wrote a work on courtesans. However, Antiphanes (comic poet) may have been intended instead. (Though looking at the history, the link to Antiphanes was in the article before the article at Antiphanes became a dab page; previously it was the page for the comic poet, so perhaps that was what was intended.) Can anyone shed any light? Caeciliusinhorto (talk) 23:55, 7 April 2016 (UTC)
cottabus vs kottabos
[edit]why are there two spellings of this word in the article... or am I missing something? Jasdasra (talk) 22:33, 2 March 2017 (UTC)
- @Jasdasra: the first letter of the original Greek word is Kappa, therefore (for reasons explained on that page -- blame the Romans!) various texts are transliterated differently according to how they have reached us or someone's personal preference at some point in history or in Wikipedia editing.
- Of course, actually the article here should be consistent for the most part or entirely. MPS1992 (talk) 23:38, 2 March 2017 (UTC)
