Note on deletion debate

[edit]

Today I just saw the result of the deletion debate, which I hadn't previously been aware of. Just a couple of clarifying notes: The original entry wasn't created by any of us at OIS, so it wasn't a "vanity" entry in that sense. Eventually I got around to expanding the article, after the discussion (which I didn't know about) had happened. I wrote most of the JHOVE code, so perhaps it's now a vanity article. :) But I hope it's more useful with the expansion. GMcGath 10:14, 3 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Needs updating

[edit]

JHOVE is currently up to v1.9 (Project page). I don't know about the backward compatibility, so I'm going to ask the developer to check and update the page. --Thnidu (talk) 22:05, 18 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I don't currently do Wikipedia editing beyond fixing an occasional typo, having been burned out by nonexistent dispute resolution, but here are some comments people may want to make use of. (I'm the primary developer of JHOVE.) JHOVE 1.9 is backward compatible in the sense that all changes are designed to improve performance or fix bugs. The most incompatible change I can think of was the replacement of the pre-release MIX schema with the latest one. That happened quite a few versions ago. Some people could be relying on quirks of one version that aren't the same in later ones, though. JHOVE2 exists, and the statement that it's "under development" is outdated. JHOVE2 (http://jhove2.org/) is a completely different application with no compatibility with JHOVE. -- Gary McGath, December 18, 2012 — Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.181.78.82 (talk) 23:06, 18 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
