The result of the move request was: Moved to Hu Ping-chuan per consensus. (non-admin closure) Ⓩⓟⓟⓘⓧ Talk 18:56, 24 March 2018 (UTC)
Hu Fing-chuan → Hu Ping-chuan – His Chinese name is 胡炳权, and there's no dialect or romanization scheme that would render "wikt:炳" as "Fing". The question therefore is, do we use the WP:COMMONNAME even though it's clearly a typo, or do we use the name that makes more sense? In addition to having played for China, the guy also coached the Singaporean national team in the 1980s per [1], so there may be more English-language sources from the 1980s. - Oppose move. You yourself claim Fing-chuan is the common name - and if that is indeed the case, there is no case for your proposed move. Wikipedia doesn't "correct" abnormal transliteration if the sources are consistent. ONR (talk) 20:59, 17 March 2018 (UTC)
- Just now, googling found "about 10" hits for "Hu Fing-chuan" table tennis and "about 25" hits for "Hu Ping-chuan" table tennis. Accept move and make an end of a trail of misinformation left by an old typo or misreading. Anthony Appleyard (talk) 05:19, 18 March 2018 (UTC)
- Support - "fing" is clearly a typo, and as Anthony has shown, not a common name. -Zanhe (talk) 09:16, 18 March 2018 (UTC)
- Support per nom and User:Anthony Appleyard. — AjaxSmack 03:32, 21 March 2018 (UTC)
