Requested move 24 September 2014
[edit]- The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review. No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the move request was: no consensus to move the page/target occupied, per the discussion below. Not moved to parenthetical because this would conflict with WP:NATURAL, and not moved to Fernando Sanz because the target is already occupied by an article. If a move is still desired, I would suggest making a multimove request in order to determine the primary topic for the target title. Further, it does not appear to be the case that this is simply a spelling error. Dekimasuよ! 23:15, 22 October 2014 (UTC) Dekimasuよ! 23:15, 22 October 2014 (UTC)
Fernand Sanz → Fernando Sanz – It's time correct a five-year-old spelling mistake. – Surtsicna (talk) 17:22, 24 September 2014 (UTC)
- This is a contested technical request (permalink). EdJohnston (talk) 18:53, 24 September 2014 (UTC)
- Comment: The target name is already occupied by Fernando Sanz, a footballer. One or both titles should probably have parenthetical disambiguation. Fernand Sanz might become Fernando Sanz (cyclist). EdJohnston (talk) 18:53, 24 September 2014 (UTC)
- Comment - that aside, presumably as a French cyclist he is "Fernand" as Spanish royal illegitimate son he is "Fernando". User:Surtsicna can you perhaps add some Google Books sources to the article? In ictu oculi (talk) 23:55, 24 September 2014 (UTC)
- I've been trying to, but few of them turn up. Perhaps I am looking in the wrong places. Nothing but Wikipedia mirrors seem to use "Fernand". Surtsicna (talk) 07:23, 25 September 2014 (UTC)
Maybe you would add all 3 of these to the article. On the strength of them now support the move to Fernando' as the bio is more notable as a Spanish natural son of the king than as a French cyclist. In fact as a minor noble, per WP nobility naming conventions the full name Fernando Sanz y Martínez de Arizala might be more appropriate than simple citizen "Fernando Sanz". In ictu oculi (talk) 14:04, 25 September 2014 (UTC)
- Though if Fernando Sanz y Martínez de Arizala is preferred per WP:Natural User:EdJohnston's comment about moving the footballer to Fernando Sanz (footballer) still stands, but the baseline could still redirect Special:WhatLinksHere/Fernando_Sanz even with (footballer) as he is no mere stub but was also president of Malaga FC. Unless someone wants to volunteer to fix those 20 links and make a TWODAB. Not me. In ictu oculi (talk) 14:11, 25 September 2014 (UTC)
- Where do the naming conventions say that full name is preferred? I was under impression that parenthetical disambiguation is preferred to full names. Surtsicna (talk) 14:25, 25 September 2014 (UTC)
- That's why I said "if", I'm not familiar with Wikipedia:Naming conventions (names and titles)#Other royals In ictu oculi (talk) 15:32, 25 September 2014 (UTC)

- Support move to Fernando only if a citation about him being Spanish royalty is in the article. If the argument is made that this is more important, then at least one sentence with citation can be put into the article. This is not yet done. Blue Rasberry (talk) 15:47, 2 October 2014 (UTC)
- There is one such citation in the article. Surtsicna (talk) 16:55, 2 October 2014 (UTC)
