Place of birth

[edit]

Where is Edgar Davids really born?,Wikipedia says he is born in Paramaribo and VI.nl says he is born in Amsterdam.

He was born in Paramaribo, his parents were from Coronie, and he was raised in Amsterdam. Aecis 14:56, 6 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Surinamese football players

[edit]

The Surinamese football players category should be removed,He is born in Suriname but before Suriname became independent.

Entry largely based on personal opinion

[edit]

No mention of where his mother is from. 'His mother is Jewish', is a reference to race/religion but not nationality. Was his mother Dutch? German? French? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 174.95.133.137 (talk) 22:55, 18 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Large sections of the opening section of this profile is based purely on opinion, especially when describing the player's personality and his "immense" contribution to the Dutch national team. It is also lazily edited when it refers to playing for Inter: "...and finally Internazionale (2004-05)" before going on to note his signing by Tottenham.

His brilliant season with Tottenham? So much so that he's been linked with a move back to Ajax? I think that's highly opinionate and in my own opinion wrong. I also think that it's stupid to go on for about half the article about one day in his career when he got food poisoning, it's not even the most important day in his career. I also believe that Davids is a dutch man

Food poisoning section

[edit]

I've moved the food poisoning section to discussion. Tottenham Hotspur's article doesn't mention this conspiracy theory either, and the paragraph is disproportionately long given it was only one incident in Davids' career. The paragraph should be shortened to a couple lines before inserting it back into the article, in my opinion.

"Davids was one of ten Spurs squad members to be struck down by food poisoning on the evening of 6 May 2006 before their crucial final game of the season against West Ham United. A win would have seen Spurs qualify for the Champions League for the first time ever, ahead of arch-rivals Arsenal. However, several players woke up the next morning feeling ill and Spurs tried to get the game postponed. They countered that the players needed extra time to get fluids and some food on board as they had not been able to eat until then. Due to a number of factors, a suitable time could not be agreed to reschedule the game. Additionally, the Premier League were not willing to rule out punishment if the game did not go ahead, so Spurs turned down the option of a minimal postponement of two hours and played the game on time with several key players clearly not match fit. Spurs went on to lose the game and surrendered 4th position in the league and a Champions League place to Arsenal. Conspiracy theories abound, but manager Martin Jol did not think dirty tricks had been going on."

Goggles

[edit]

According to the german wiki he would not need to wear his goggles today anymore but only continues to do so because of the look. 91.39.205.216 (talk) 21:53, 26 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

"most recognisable player of his generation"

[edit]

I removed this statement. Three citations are provided (and I've left them there) but, while they commented on his distinctive look, not one of them actually says he was "the most recognisable". Even if a citation turns up which does make that claim, it's far too subjective to belong in an encyclopedia, there are bound to be many who would name others as more recognisable (for example, google hits for "most recognisable footballer" are almost exclusively related to David Beckham). — Preceding unsigned comment added by 92.230.90.155 (talk) 08:24, 21 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
