Reviewer: Kung Fu Man (talk · contribs) 22:14, 10 November 2012 (UTC) Alright I'm going to spare you the breakdown and get right to the point: the prose is a mess and direly needs a copyedit. Reading the sentences aloud may help with that, as it'll give you an indication if things can be improved upon, or cases in which grammar is incorrect (for example, the first sentence of the reception area).
- I really feel a better picture can be used for the article. While I get the intended impact of the image, it's meaningless to someone unfamiliar with the game and doesn't give a good idea of Dogmeat's appearance, which is what the infobox image is intended for.
- Reference 9 can be rewritten to cover that it's discussing Dogmeat as an example of a non-human party member and the significance of it without namedropping an unrelated character or game (checked the exact excerpt myself on Google, this is feasible).
- The fan-made mod reference doesn't add a whole lot by itself. Many such mods exist across the board, how was Dogmeat's significant?
- Reference 12 is given undue weight: as broad a blanket term as to why such a character was chosen cannot and should not be used as qualifying reception. It needs to be more specific: why does it matter that he was on this poll in their opinion. If they were to, say, list 'pokemon' as an option, would that validate it as reception for every species article? No. In addition the results of the poll are user based and unreliable.
Really even with those points, the one thing holding it back is how it's written. The material is there but it's a difficult read and needs a little dusting. If this is done I have no problem promoting it to GA.--Kung Fu Man (talk) 22:14, 10 November 2012 (UTC)
You mean ref 10 right? What exactly there is hard to read? I thought it's pretty simple, well explained, and also short. Almost-winning the poll = being popular among the gamers. Dogmeat's look (and race) was different in FO1 (and 2). --Niemti (talk) 00:45, 12 November 2012 (UTC)
- You can still use a better image though. Use the article to discuss that the character appeared differently in different titles. As for the poll, the biggest problem is there's no control on the results: it's very easy for someone to use a script to spoof a poll's results, as has been illustrated by folks such as Stephen Colbert when he sought to have a bridge named after himself. And yes, ref 10; it can be worded to get to the point without needing to mention the Shadow of the Colossus character, no?--Kung Fu Man (talk) 04:40, 12 November 2012 (UTC)
- It's already is. But is less interesting/informative. --Niemti (talk) 09:02, 12 November 2012 (UTC)
Screenshots?
[edit]How about some pictures of Dogmeat from the various games? One from each game? Showing how he's changed over time, maybe? Also, has anyone official stated that Dogmeat is a Blue Heeler in Fallout 3? To be honest, he doesn't look like one to me personally.

Requested move 6 March 2018
[edit]- The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review. No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the move request was: page moved consensus was that the term was ambiguous enough disambiguation was needed. Discussions re: disambiguation and where the redirect should point can happen outside of the RM. TonyBallioni (talk) 14:36, 14 March 2018 (UTC)
Dogmeat → Dogmeat (Fallout) – "dogmeat" in books (see search results) is a common alternative spelling of "dog meat", not a sidekick animation character from a video game. In ictu oculi (talk) 13:12, 6 March 2018 (UTC)
- Support This is a commonly enough used alternate name to not fall under WP:SMALLDETAILS.ZXCVBNM (TALK) 13:21, 6 March 2018 (UTC)
- Oppose per WP:PRECISE. There's a hatnote on the article to take care of any possible confusion. Not to mention dictionary.com says dogmeat means something else entirely, not actual dog meat. That use seems to be non-standard. Station1 (talk) 01:38, 7 March 2018 (UTC)
- Oppose Google news results indicate that the vast majority of notable uses of the term refer to the current subject. While there is no doubt that the term without a space is sometimes used to refer to the meat, these are clearly a minority of the uses of the term, and those who do end up here looking for the other page can easily resolve the problem using a hatnote.--Yaksar (let's chat) 01:40, 7 March 2018 (UTC)
- Support - Its quite clear that the game character's name was inspired by the topic of "meat made from dogs". Being its namesake and a more general knowledge topic, that makes it a WP:PRIMARYREDIRECT to dog meat. -- Netoholic @ 08:48, 7 March 2018 (UTC)
- Support. The current title is ambiguous, per use in books: [1] [2] [3] [4], etc. Dekimasuよ! 08:59, 7 March 2018 (UTC)
- Support. Although I believe it should redirect to Dog food rather than Dog meat. -- Necrothesp (talk) 13:44, 7 March 2018 (UTC)
- That would certainly be preferable to the proposal, as it more closely reflects the primary meaning of dogmeat. Three standard dictionaries I checked do not have entries at all for dogmeat. Merriam-Webster says it is "meat for or fit only for dogs; sometimes: offal, carrion" and only as a secondary definition dog flesh or "inferior table meat; broadly: something disliked". The Dictionary of American Slang defines dogmeat as "Something or somebody inferior or worthless; crap, shit". Both say it is synonymous with the older form, "dog's meat", but not with "dog meat". That also ties in with Dogmeat the character's name, who was originally to be named Dogshit, not a namesake of meat made from dogs. Redirecting the non-standard dogmeat to the more correct dog meat without explanation would be a disservice to readers. Station1 (talk) 22:35, 7 March 2018 (UTC)
- That suggests a dab page at the base term would be preferable, with links to dog food, dog meat and the fictional dog. —Xezbeth (talk) 11:19, 9 March 2018 (UTC)
- The above discussion is preserved as an archive of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on this talk page or in a move review. No further edits should be made to this section.
