So, if creatitine clearance is above 1, is that good or bad? If it is below 1, is that good or bad?
Creatinine clearance (CrCl) is measured in mL/min. The number you are referring to is serum creatinine (SCr). If your SCr is <1 this is generally good (at least as a reflection of your kidney function). If you plug that into the formula for calculating CrCl you will get a number that usually ranges from 0 - 100+.
Your kidneys are usually considered to be working well so long as your CrCl is >60ml/min. Once you start getting below this threshold you will probably be referred to as having moderate renal dysfunction, but this doesn't really translate into much of a day to day problem. Until your CrCl gets below 20-30. Once you start getting below 20, dialysis may not be far away.
However, there are many parameters which can cause your SCr to be falsely elevated (body builders with lots of muscle and dehydration to name a few.
Regardless of this, if your SCr startes getting above 1.5 or even higher this can mean trouble for your kidneys. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 198.153.57.100 (talk) 23:52, 4 December 2007 (UTC)
Why are the units used for the volumes in the creatine clearance calculation dL? surely standard units would be ml. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 128.243.220.42 (talk) 23:59, 15 January 2008 (UTC)
