Mrs KRONBERG (Eastern Metropolitan)—It is my great pleasure to announce that MsGwayne Naug of Eltham has recently published the fourth in her series of historical novels.

Seeds of Empire, Banners of the Sun, Precipice of Power and Salute to the Gods are the four volumes of the Ferenghi Quartet, which the author, Ms Naug, promised us back in 2008, when Seeds of Empire was published. Since that time MsNaug has dedicated herself to developing our insight into the life of the narrator, Claude Martin, a Frenchman who was born in 1735 and died in 1800. He was an ‘architect, engineer, soldier of fortune, cartographer, botanist, astronomer and chivalrous lover’ who ‘played an important role in the stability and development of the honourable East India Company at the courts of the Moguls’.

Writing the quartet would be a remarkable feat for anybody, but it is even more remarkable considering that MsNaug entered her ninth decade a little while back. What a stunning achievement! Those of us who know her well are very proud of Gwayne’s commitment to such an erudite project. What a legacy and what a great read! Our heartfelt thanks go out to her.
