"Cheatin' Charley"

[edit]

I have a problem with the "Cheatin' Charlie" nickname as written here. I was at Clemson throughout his tenure there and we NEVER used this name. In fact, I never even heard it until I read this article. As the violations did not come to light until he had left to coach at Florida, we had no reason to suspect or use this nickname. I suspect that this portion of the article needs to be reworded to put the nickname's usage in the appropriate chronology, as it was never used in the 1970s at Clemson. I concur. Moreover, I can find NO contemporaneous references to this or any similar nickname during his time as JSU, CU or UF coach, nor any such usage after the UF/NCAA scandal broke in Gainesville. This seems to be a little re-writing of history after the fact. This poor bastard does not need anonymous IP editors with a self-perceived sense of humor piling on with made-up nicknames. I have deleted the original reference, and I will continue to delete any such future references in the absence of a footnoted reliable source. Dirtlawyer1 (talk) 15:22, 30 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
