Notability

[edit]

This article is mostly based on trivial mentions; the sources about the playgrounds are mostly talking about them being playgrounds and not Chansey itself. 38.75.235.237 (talk) 01:04, 21 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

The playgrounds themselves use Chansey as its main imagery, and Chansey itself was used as the main symbol of the ambassador partnership project between the Prefecture and TPC. It displays significant real-world impact: Chansey and imagery associated with it were used to aid in the revival of Fukushima's tourism sector. The book source also describes how young children use a well-known character to find common ground while learning the English language, using Chansey's name to aid in this regard. The other sources all provide some kind of commentary on the character (Though Cite 10 is admittedly a very weak one, as is Cite 14, though I'd definitely argue in support of the latter.) Is it as strong as some other Pokémon character articles? Not really, but there is some significant real-world notability being displayed here that, to me, shows that Chansey is a notable character. I'd tend to agree that this article should be merged - at least by the standards of articles I've seen merged. It relies heavily on listicles. We have to consider whether the notable thing may be "Lucky Park", not Chansey itself. Notability is not inherited. ᴢxᴄᴠʙɴᴍ () 16:31, 21 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Should that be the outcome of a discussion, I'd be happy to try and write an article about the Park instead, though I will argue Chansey's overall ambassador position lends it some standalone notability, with the Parks being an extension of that. While Cite 10 is weak, the other listicles do provide some commentary on the character, and I made sure to try and stray away from them where possible. I wouldn't be opposed to a merge/split discussion regardless, since I understand the concerns, and it would be good to clear up overall notability in a discussion. @Zxcvbnm: I will bring up regarding the park thing, there are multiple sources discussing it and Chansey's significance in regards to it. Recently you argued in regards to Felyne that the police promotion they were involved with afforded them notability, and there that association was more coincidental for Capcom promoting Monster Hunter. That may be worth considering.--Kung Fu Man (talk) 17:29, 21 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Ultimately I could not find almost any articles -specifically- about Chansey's role as an ambassador, with most of them being about the park. The Felyne article was largely about the creature itself. There is this, but it's a primary source (and the sheer amount of prefecture-specific Pokemon makes singling one of them out as special in this regard kind of iffy). ᴢxᴄᴠʙɴᴍ () 17:45, 21 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I figured that might be a longshot, but felt it could be worth bringing up. That whole AfD on Snorlax and how it was notable despite a lack of discussion is still on my mind regarding subjects like these, though there was a lot more standalone articles than here.--Kung Fu Man (talk) 17:50, 21 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I'd argue that it is still significant real-world impact that Chansey's image is being used for these kinds of things, and that's combined with the commentary from other sources in the article. The book source, for instance, is a notable use of Chansey, and the various other sources do offer some commentary on it. It's something that's not really shared by stuff like Geodude or Sandshrew, who really only have the ambassador role to their name in terms of notability and not much else.
As for Chansey's ambassador role, maybe there's more in Japanese sources? I've got no clue how to access foreign sources, but there may be something more there. Pokelego999 (talk) 17:58, 21 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
