Women's sport wikiproject
[edit]I have proposed that we create a WikiProject devoted to Women's sport: Wikipedia:WikiProject Council/Proposals/Women's Sport. John Vandenberg (chat) 10:48, 26 March 2011 (UTC)
Definitions?
[edit]Some of the rules differences aren't clear to one not familiar with the game:
- A camogie player can handpass a score (forbidden in hurling since 1980)
What is a "handpass?" I assume it means grabbing the sliotar and flinging it by hand, but it would be good to have it settled for sure
- If a defending player hits the sliotar wide, a 45-metre puck is awarded to the opposition (in hurling, it is a 65-metre puck)
The only puck with which I'm familiar is the one used in hockey. I suspect this is something different. Can we get it defined in the article?
- Side-to-side charges are forbidden. (permitted in hurling)
Does this forbid lateral movement, or does "side-to-side" mean something different here?
- Two points are awarded for a score direct from a sideline cut
What is a "sideline cut?"
Thanks,

Appropriate?
[edit]Hi all, just noticed this part of the lede: "Camogie has none of the physical drama found in hurling." This clearly isn't a factual statement. Even opening the citation, it is just an opinion piece from Tommy Conlon. Surely doesn't belong on Wikipedia. Bonzostar (talk) 13:24, 22 June 2020 (UTC)
- Agreed. At best, this belongs in a discussion of the differences in rules between the two variants of the game, with more specific references, but doesn't belong in the lead paragraph AshSIreland (talk) 20:37, 29 June 2020 (UTC)
Camogie international
[edit]Although camogie is played predominantly in Ireland it has spread internationally, largely by immigrants and immigrant populations. A section dealing with its international presence would be an asset especially since the World GAA Games was initiated by the early 21st century. CheckersBoard (talk) 23:57, 22 May 2022 (UTC)
bias?
[edit]Tommy Conlon's quote in the criticism section seems incredibly biased to me, as well as just being irrelevant, especially the line about Camogie not having the "physical drama" that hurling does. I don't believe that quote has any right to be there, especially since he's not an authority on sports in Ireland by any means.
I think it would serve the article better to have more reliable sources quoted in the Criticism section, at the very least. On a deeper level, is that section even necessary? 84.203.119.34 (talk) 11:16, 23 August 2024 (UTC)
