I was wondering why is the link to a website specializing on the history of Bose 601 speakers removed? It was added on 11 May 2009 and it is not WP:Spam. So why the removal? -- Phoenix (talk) 00:07, 27 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The date that it was added has nothing to do with its value here. The link, http://www.bose601speakers.net, fails in a number of ways to register as a reliable, useful link. Its author is unstated, making it self published; the information presented does not contain anything this article would contain if expanded; the link has no copyrighted material that could not be brought here, the link's anonymous author offers his opinions; the information is undated, preventing the reader from determining its usefulness relative to time. Are you saying that it would be ok just to copy the data here? If so I wouldn't mind that. -- Phoenix (talk) 06:38, 27 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
When considering the URL as a reference, we look at WP:RS for reliable sources instead of WP:EL for external links. The reliable source guideline says "Reliable sources may therefore be published materials with a reliable publication process; they may be authors who are regarded as authoritative in relation to the subject in question; or they may be both." The website with its unknown author and indeterminate publishing origins is neither. Binksternet (talk) 07:08, 27 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
