I heard a CBC radio interview with Medina, where she described her experiences as a war correspondent. One trick she described was to carry "lite" or "ultra-lite" cigarettes. When stopped by unfriendly border guards, or reasonable equivalent, she would offer them cigarettes from her "ultra-lite" package. Ultra-lite cigarettes were an unfamiliar item in the middle-east and the other war zones she covered. And the guards would struggle to get a nicotine hit from their first draughts from these smokes. IIRC, everyone would laugh, and the tension would evaporate.
It is an interesting anecdote. And if I could find a source, I would include it in the main article.
About ten years ago there was a segment on a CBC public affairs show on violent first-person shooters. Medina described what she liked about the original DooM, and there was a short sequence showing her playing DooM. -- Geo Swan13:39, 14 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
