Aftermath

[edit]

(1) Many people would not call what happened at Fondi in September, 1378, an "aftermath", but a continuation of the Conclave process. That was certainly the view of the Clementines. The article is rather one-sided in its treatment. (2) The statement, "The following September, the French cardinals reunited in Avignon, moved to Fondi," is factually untrue and misleading. All of the Cardinals were at Fondi, except Francesco Tebaldeschi, who died on September 6, 1378. Fondi belonged to Onorato Caetani, Count of Fondi, who had been expelled from Rome by the magistrates of the city, and who was not a supporter of Bartolommeo Prignano.
