Plasmodium lutzi is a parasite of the genus Plasmodium subgenus Haemamoeba.
Like all Plasmodium species P. lutzi has both vertebrate and insect hosts. The vertebrate hosts for this parasite are birds.
Taxonomy
[edit]The parasite was first described by Lucena in 1939.
Distribution
[edit]This parasite is found in Brazil, Colombia and Venezuela.
Hosts
[edit]This parasite has been reported to infect the grey-cowled wood rail (Aramides cajaneus) and the great thrush (Turdus fuscater).[1]
