Hugo González Peña (born 5 February 2006) is a Spanish professional basketball player for Real Madrid of the Spanish Liga ACB and the EuroLeague.
Early life and career
[edit]Born in Madrid, Hugo joined Real Madrid's youth team at 9 years of age. He quickly rose through the ranks, eventually becoming a part of the junior team and the reserve team in the Liga EBA during the 2022–23 season.
In 2023, he won the Next Generation Tournament with Real Madrid U18.
On October 2, 2022, he made his professional debut in the Liga ACB against Monbus Obradoiro.[1] He spent 3:08 minutes on the court, contributing with 4 points and a PIR of 5 in the win against the Galicians. At 16 years, 7 months, and 27 days old, he became the fourth youngest Madridista to play in the ACB.[2]
National team career
[edit]In July 2022, Hugo was part of the 2022 FIBA Under-17 Basketball World Cup held in Málaga, where the team secured a silver medal by losing the final to the United States with a score of 67–79.
On July 30, 2023, he won silver medal in the 2023 FIBA U18 European Championship held in Niš, Serbia, losing the final to the host team.[3]
