Brogan Engbers (born March 2, 1999) is a Canadian professional soccer player who plays as a goalkeeper.
Early life
[edit]Engbers was born in Ottawa, Ontario and began playing youth soccer at age five with Cumberland United SC.[1] He began playing goalkeeper at age eight.[2] In 2012, he joined the Toronto FC Academy when he was 12.[3][4]
College career
[edit]In 2017, he committed to Liberty University.[5][6] He played two seasons for their Flames soccer team, recording two shutouts in nine games in 2018 and one shutout in seven games in 2019.[7][8]
Club career
[edit]While part of the Toronto FC Academy, he debuted for the Senior Academy team, Toronto FC III, on May 3, 2015 at the age of 16 against Vaughan Azzurri.[9]
On May 1, 2015, he signed an academy deal with Toronto FC II to be eligible to join them for matches in the USL.[10] He made his Toronto FC II debut as a second half substitute in a friendly against Italian club A.S. Roma's Primavera U19 side.[3][11] He made some bench appearances for TFCII in the USL through 2017, but ultimately did not enter any match.[12]
In 2019, he played in League1 Ontario for Windsor TFC.[13] He had planned to join Aurora FC for the 2020 season, although it was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.[14]
On May 12, 2021, he signed his first professional contract to join Toronto FC II for their 2021 season in USL League One.[3] He spent the first few months of the season training with the first team.[15]
In May 2023, he signed a short-term contract with Atlético Ottawa of the Canadian Premier League.[16]
International career
[edit]Engers was called up to various national team youth identification camps from U15 to U18 between 2013 and 2016.[1] He was named to Canada U17 team for the 2015 CONCACAF U-17 Championship, although he did not make an appearance.[17][18]
