Revision as of 07:41, 4 September 2006

The aim of this project is to standardize and improve articles related to alternative rock and its sub-genres, as well as to create missing articles. This project replaces WikiProject Indie music and expands its scope to cover both underground and mainstream components of alternative music. This project is not intended to cover all underground music, mainly that which developed after the advent of punk rock and has been termed "indie" or "alternative"; however, since such obscure topics might escape the notice of other editors or projects, they can be brought to the attention of participants of this Wikiproject on the Talk Page.

You can also help to improve the Alternative music collaboration of the week, an alternative music-related article selected by community consensus to be collaboratively improved over a month's time, ideally to elevate it to good or featured level status.

Please add tasks needing to be done in the appropriate section, and remove them accordingly when they are completed.

Other

  • The Cure needs to be trimmed down a little bit as well as have some POV toned down.
  • Britpop needs to cite its sources in the text.
  • Make sure that all alternative subgenres are listed on the Alternative rock page
  • Make sure alternative bands are listed on the proper subgenre pages and categories.
  • Greater distinction should be made between Indie pop and Twee pop. Twee is a subset of the broader label of indie pop, but both articles cover a lot of the same ground.
  • The proper name of Shoegazing/shoegaze/shoegazer needs to be determined.
  • Pearl Jam needs sources and a rather severe cleaning of external links
  • Hüsker Dü needs soundclips and more inline citations.
  • They Might Be Giants has continued problems trying to attain Good Article status.
  • An anonymous user with different IP addresses keeps adding heavy metal as a genre on the Stone Temple Pilots page as well as the page for their album No. 4.
  • A new user who posts under a user name as well as under an IP keeps arguing the against the inclusion of "alternative" as a genre on The Smiths and The Jesus and Mary Chain, as well as edits genres on other pages wihtout discussion.
