On August 6th, 2024, Ukrainian forces launched an incursion into Russia's Kursk Oblast around 08:00 Moscow Standard Time (UTC+3). The units crossed from the territory of Ukraine, and attacked stationed units and border guards in the villages of Nikolayevo-Daryino and Oleshnya.[6]
The Russian Ministry of Defense claimed that Ukrainian forces attacked with 300 soldiers, 11 tanks, and 20 armored vehicles.[2]
The Ukrainian General Staff and Ukrainian Ministry of Defense did not reply to questions asked about the incursion.[7]
Military casualty claims
Russia claimed that six tanks and ten armored vehicles were lost in the engagement.[2][4] Additionally, Russia claimed that the attack was repelled.[8] Acting governor of the Kursk region, Alexei Smirnov, claimed that 26 Ukrainian UAVs were shot down in the area.[9]
