editFrom Oghur, from Proto-Turkic *tāna, possibly of Iranian origin, from Proto-Indo-Iranian *dʰa(H)inúš.
Compare Chuvash тына (tyna, “heifer”), Turkish dana (“calf, steer”), Sanskrit धेनु (dhenu, “(milk) cow”).
