Cognates include Finnish kupla (“bubble”), Ingrian kupla (“heap; crest”), Karelian kubla (“debris on the water”), Livvi kublu (“swamp”), Ludian kubl (“swim bladder”); Southern Sami gåbloe (“lung”), Inari Sami koble (“perch roe”), Skolt Sami kåbllad (“to float”), Eastern Mari кувыл (kuvyl, “rain bubbles on water”) and Northern Mansi [script needed] (χɨwl-, “to swim / row downstream”). Possibly also Eastern Khanty комԓәӈ (komłəṇ, “bladder; blister”) and Hungarian hólyag (“bladder; blister; bubble”).
