From Malay bangsal, from Classical Malay bangsal, from Hindi भनसाल (bhansāl, storehouse), from earlier भण्डसाल (bhaṇḍasāl), भण्डसार (bhaṇḍasār), from Sanskrit भाण्डशाला (bhāṇḍaśālā, storehouse, magazine), from भाण्ड (bhāṇḍa) +‎ शाला (śālā).
