editFrom Proto-Tocharian *āknātsā, from *e(n)- + a reflex of Proto-Indo-European *n̥-ǵneh₃-to-, *n̥-ǵneh₃-tih₂, from *ǵneh₃- (“know”), meaning something like "unknowing". Compare Sanskrit अज्ञात (ájñāta, “unknown”), Latin ignōtus (“unknown; ignorant”), Ancient Greek ἄγνωτος (ágnōtos, “unknown; ignorant”). Compare Tocharian A āknats.
