Please note that we are not Wikipedia. If you have edited there, then it won't be very difficult for you to find your way here, but there are a number of differences. For example, Wiktionary is case-sensitive: Kind (German) is not the same as kind (English, Danish, Dutch etc.) Also note that Wiktionary uses no parenthetic disambiguation, so where Wikipedia might have separate articles on Mercury (planet), Mercury (element), and Mercury (mythology), Wiktionary will only have one entry on Mercury which addresses proper noun uses, and an entry on mercury which addresses regular noun uses.

Some of these already have articles, so I'll just queue them up for deletion with {{delete}}.

You could avoid these kind of mistakes by typing the word you want to add in a search box on the left - if it shows something when you hit ENTER, article already exists, and if it doesn't, click on the red wikilink in the first sentence and it will open up edit box in the main namespace (that is, without Category: or Wiktionary: prefix). Hi there, and thank you for your great work on Frisian! Can I please ask that instead of writing:

{{fy-verb|betelje|betellest|betellet|betelje|betelle|betelleste|betelle|betellen|beteljende|betelje|hawwe|betelle|pay}}

you write:

{{subst:fy-verb|betelje|betellest|betellet|betelje|betelle|betelleste|betelle|betellen|beteljende|betelje|hawwe|betelle|pay}}

Wiktionary has, unfortunately, a very complicated system of templates. the {{fy-verb}} that you created is a "preload" template, which means it fills in a lot of the things that you don't want to bother with (like headings) but that it should not be left in the article (it should be subst: instead). {{infl}} is an "inflection line" template, like the {{fy-pron}} - so you could create one that worked like {{en-verb}} if you wanted. To be honest I have no idea what the template {{fy-pron}} does, but if it is a clone of {{en-pron}} then the documentation there should give you a clue. Conrad.Irwin 13:08, 7 February 2008 (UTC)

Categories

Hi there! You're doing some great work. However, to fit with established practice here, the Category should not be ?Category:Saterland Frisian days but rather Category:stq:Days of the week. This fits in with others of the same type, eg Category:ang:Days of the week, Category:fy:Days of the week etc etc. Ƿidsiþ 13:13, 30 December 2008 (UTC)

In Old English the Category is added to Category:Old English nouns, but in West Frisian and Saterland Frisian it isn't added to the nouns category-SK luuut 13:20, 30 December 2008 (UTC)

But Category:stq:Irregular verbs and stq:Verb forms should be named the other way. Categories by subject matter use lang: and categories by part of speech use Language. (Categories that are somewhere in between get debated.  :-) )—msh210℠ 20:17, 30 December 2008 (UTC)

talk:boi

At talk:boi a user as said that (deprecated template usage) boi is a West Frisian word meaning "boy", however from what I can tell the West Frisian word for "boy" is jonge. I don't speak the language and none of boi, boy, and jonge exist on the West Frisian wiktionary or wikipedia though so I'm not certain. As the most recently active speaker of West Frisian (who has a babel box on their user page), please could you comment there (talk:boi). Thank you. Thryduulf (talk) 00:19, 10 June 2010 (UTC)
