fr-proper noun ?

This template is used for the headword line of French proper nouns. It uses Module:fr-headword as a back-end.

It should be used just under the 'Proper noun' header for French words. For example, on Algérie:

===Proper noun===
{{fr-proper noun|f}}

This template contains the necessary meta-data to allow users who are using accelerated editing to create any grammatical forms semi-automatically.

Parameters

|head=
The head word, if different from the page name, or to link to individual words.
|1= (required)
The gender, which should be one of m, f, m-p or f-p. It also accepts mf as a shortcut for m|g2=f.
|g2=
The second gender, if any.
|2=, |3=, |4= etc.
The plural forms, if the noun is not already plural (as indicated in the gender). The shortcut * can be used if the plural is the same as the singular, and the shortcuts s or x can be used if the plural is formed by adding s or x. If no plural forms are given, the proper noun is assumed to have no plural. The first plural can also have some special values:
  • -: if the noun is uncountable. The second and higher plural parameters can still be given, and indicate that the noun is usually uncountable, but can sometimes be pluralized.
  • ~: if the noun can be either countable or uncountable, depending on meaning. The countable plural(s) should be specified using the second and higher plural parameters; if not given, the default is as below.
  • !: if the plural is not attested.
  • ?: if you don't know the plural or are not sure if it even has a plural.
|f=, |f2= etc.
Feminine equivalent noun(s), if any.
|m=, |m2= etc.
Masculine equivalent noun(s), if any.
|suff=1
Term is a suffix rather than a base form (this categorizes into Category:French suffixes and Category:French proper noun-forming suffixes rather than Category:French proper nouns).

Default plurals

The default rule for forming plurals (used only when ~ is specified as the plural) is as follows:

  • If the noun ends in -s, -x or -z, the plural is the same as the singular.
  • If the noun ends in -au or -eu, the plural is formed by adding x.
  • If the noun ends in -al, the plural is formed by changing -al to -aux.
  • Otherwise, the plural is formed by adding -s.
