Proto-Uralic

Reconstruction

edit

The word can only be reliably reconstructed to Finno-Samic/Western Uralic. Hungarian szép is not a certain descendant due to the semantic gap, and an alternative Turkic etymology for it has also been proposed.[1]

Adjective

edit

*śeppä

  1. skilled

Descendants

edit
  • Proto-Finnic: *seppä (see there for further descendants)
  • Proto-Samic: *čeappē (see there for further descendants)
  • Hungarian: szép
